I have seen some videos of intruders breaking in, or baby sitter abusing kids, and their cat straight go blender mode and fuck them up. Not saying it's as reliable as a dog guarding, but I have seen quite a few instances of cats fucking people up for doing wrong.

Also seen videos of dogs just being excited about a person being there. As with everything else it's not a black and white thing.

My brother drove into town at 3am the year I got my dog, I left the door unlocked for him. In the morning I found my dog asleep on him. Yeah, hell of a guard dog.

While my dog barks at my vehicle when I get a new one. 🙄

Saw a video of a caretaker for cats get bit in the ass cheek while placing food bowls.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 10 points 4 weeks ago

A rabbit bit my ass once because he was

  • mental
  • I did kiss his mom, my later wife
  • he was so jealous...
[–] Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, sometimes animals just aren't very sociable

[–] Hamartia@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

...and, sometimes you just want to plant your teeth in those cheeks.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

A nibble can't be a bad idea, everybody would do it. Right?

Right??

[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 weeks ago

Might as well call me fluffles

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

cat bites and scratches are also more dangerous, because they nasty bacteria that gives very dangerous infections. dogs, not so much even if they bite.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 4 weeks ago

The difference is significant but not enormous. Something like 15% of dog bites and 40% of cat bites become infected. Also almost all rabies infections are from dog bites, so the idea that "cat bites are more dangerous" is pretty misleading. I think most cat bite infections result in a mild bacterial infection that clears in a week or two.

Most dogs I know would lead the burglar to the jewels for a bit of bacon or a belly rub.

[–] bigboismith@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Brother my dog would help them carry out the TV

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 weeks ago

golden retriever would do that.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

One of my long gone cats would legit chase the robbers out while trying to eat them. She was half wildcat, I think bobcat, and weighed 75-80 pounds when full grown. She successfully hunted a few deer.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

What?? Forget bobcat, they only get to 40 pounds. Yours was a panther. Is this a shitpost??

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

Nah, not a shit post. I don't think we had panthers in the Midwest. Like I said, I have no clue what she was, but she loved me and was very protective. Had a mottled grey, brown, white fur pattern, and huge ears.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 weeks ago

supremely jealous!

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Did you ever feel in danger? My nine pounder plays hard sometimes.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

I didn't. Others certainly did though. She was quite gentle with me, she never really got along with anyone else.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 weeks ago

We had a big tomcat like that. If someone came in the house, all the others would book it under the bed, but Jake would head right for the visitor. He was probably hoping to make a friend, but he was always willing to fight, too, if you were so inclined. Playing, fighting, it was all good fun to him.

[–] dreamy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Do you have any pictures of it?

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

My mom may. I'll ask next time I talk to her

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

That's why we get gorila, so when the burglar make eye contact with them, the burglar will need to have a pokemon battle with the pet gorila before they can proceed, plenty of time to call the cop.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

This is a anti-dog neme of the cat faction.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Meanwhile my cats are all like "OMG someone new to pet me!!! We're going to be best friends! Have you seen my butt yet?"

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 weeks ago

abyssinians might do that, maybe a formally feral cat might be mroe spicy.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Huh? Not my cats. They'll be like "Heeeeeeey food ~~please~~ NOW HOOMAN! You can take the rest, I don't care. Just not that cardboard box."

[–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Dogs also do that for the vacuum, packages, people walking by, birds, squirrels, other dogs, cats....

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

Dump a bucket of catnip on the burglar.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago

Until there are treats. Many dogs can be bought off.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 4 weeks ago

Depends on the dog.

My husky wouldn't do shit. My chipoo would try valiantly to protect his home, but is too small to be effective.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 4 weeks ago

I don't want an attack dog, I'll protect the cats just fine.

The cats won't run down range and get in my way.
