I got laid off right as I was having surgery last year, so I went to a few job interviews in a panic, on painkillers. At one point they were like "What do you think about XYZ" and whatever the acronym was, I had never even heard it. So I just looked around and said, "Acronyms, eh?" and laughed. And everyone else laughed, except one guy who realized I was bluffing, and that got super awkward real quick. But for a second, we all really connected over how fucking stupid it was. (MSP job for which I am grateful not to have)

So, requiring them to cover their datacenters with solar farms would lessen power requirements by 9% plus whatever offset to cooling costs, that's not nothing as we try to find ways to power these things beyond private natural gas plants, which they can't keep doing.

There's a key involved that we don't have, so people can't do this on their own. It's pretty fascinating. Training models would have to be told to check for watermarks and ignore them, but yeah that would be an effective way for the providers to avoid ingesting their own AI output.
