Darn it, he beat me to it!

Parasocial Attachment to a Hallucination Box meticulously configured to lie at you as convincingly as possible. It deals you a drug that you mistake for "validation" by spitting out words statistically weighted to come across in a flattering light. It understands you, itself, and the world even less than Cargo Cults comprehend Aerospace Engineering. Gorging yourself on the slop it shits out every time you type something and hit [enter] will leave your imagination in paralysis. You'll only have yourself to blame. Don't do it. You'll be happier without it.

have you seen sports fans, or the endless religious stupidity? How you can be passionate about some overpaid dickhead running around a field is the same stupidity as this.

how people become attached to some billionaires team defies my understanding, as does an AI girlfriend

I want AI gooners to be trapped in private than to be out harrassing anyone. I think it's a much less harmful alternative than finding someone to pay for services or trapping some poor person in a relation. Watching am incel get mad at a woman because they don't follow anime logic is reallly uncomfortable.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I want sex work to be legal and sex workers to enjoy the same standards and protections of any other worker. Forming a parasocial relationship with a fake digital entity should be way more harmful than paying for a sex worker's services.

[–] TwistedTurtle@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

I'm convinced we'd see a noticeable drop in shootings, rapes, and other violent crime - as well as huge downtick in subscriber's of manosphere rhetoric - if sex work was legal and sexuality itself less demonized.

So much of the iridescent rage in our world seems to stem from the simple reality that a subset of men just can't get laid.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah but I'd prefer they strive to be better and learn to fit in with other people

That's some "soshillust" talk right there! We aint supposed to be nice to each other, Jesus says so in the Bibble. /s

[–] pr0sp3kt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

I totally agree. VR sex with new peripherals and drivers written in rust with buttplug.rs is the way to go.

Gen Alpha's parents are... let me check my notes... Millenials. Aw Fuck.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

plenty of millenials also use AI chatbots.

“Our sires’ age was worse than our grandsires’. We, their sons, are more worthless than they; so in our turn we shall give the world a progeny yet more corrupt.”

Book III of Odes, Horace circa 20 BC

We've been feeling that way for a while. The bayesian in me says that they will turn out fine despite their AI girlfriend calling them boring and breaking up with them.

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Ehhhh, I think the best historic comparison here is opium hitting the silk road. Tech companies, for decades now, have been working very hard to make the most addictive product possible so they can make more money

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Opium is here. It's inevitable. It's useless to try to fight it, we need to secure our own poppy farms so we can keep up. Otherwise we'll be left behind by all the other nations and their opium.

What Cleverbot and I do in our bedroom is between us.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

If you don't like how you kid turns out, its your fault. You raised them.

[–] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I agree but disagree, so far as I've noticed, the only thing you really have control over, when raising little people to be big people, is if they do or don't have trauma. Weirdly enough, they're like their whole own person and mostly nothing like you, from day dot, and the bits that are like you, they'll try to snuff out, because ew parents, lame, or something. Probably doesn't help that I'm a massive goof. There's no controlling, there's just walking along side, and helping them with the hard bits. It's pure chaos. My favourite thing.

It's quite the mass experiment we're doing here. Seems irresponsible of parents to allow this.

Teach your kids that AI is shit from the start. And, while you're at it model responsible use of tech generally. If you sit staring at your phone, that's what your kid will do.

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Except… that fuels rebelliousness. “Oh, dad told me it was bad; it must be good then, somehow.” Gotta get hip with it so they get weirded and grossed out.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

this is precisely with kids don't want to drink or smoke weed anymore, their parents do it, talk openly about it, and it's lame.

might also be why they are not having sex anymore, because their parents made it boring and lame.

My father thinks he's a good parent. Thinks he's a good person, when I can tell such tales as how he used his pellet gun to shoot out the neighbor's inflatable pool cuz their kid was too loud and (checks notes) jumping on an eighteen year old two months after my mom died when I was nine and telling me she would be my new mommy before plowing through a half-dozen other mommies. But, y'know, he supported me in track, living vicariously through me to literally throw me away onto the streets in the aftermath of BOTH having my breakdown in college and getting taken advantage of by a cult. But he has a new family now, after he threw out his parents, and well, all of the family I knew when I was thirteen. It's taken me until age 36 to realize how fucked my father is, who refuses to talk to me now because, in his words, I'm too bizarre. No therapy until aftermath college breakdown, mind you.

I dunno. I write this in the hopes maybe every parent reinspects themselves to make sure they are on the top of the world in their quest to become the perfect vice president of their firm while many people suffer in their wake. There's so many things I'm coming across from my past that evoke a waylon of dire nostalgia, forgotten as trauma caused a cave in within my mind, trapping parts of myself away from parts of myself. My official diagnosis is schizoaffective (bipolar subtype) woth PTSD. I think a more accurate diagnosis is that I have a rare form of ASD/ADHD that often gets misdiagnosed as schizo-type disorders, with CPTSD, as the complexes I've built in my psyche are God damn insane, and yet, the worst crime I've done, to my knowledge, is shoplifting. How am I not the antichrist?

God helped, obviously. My Father was a better father than my father. Y'know, the Server? What the Buddhists call the "Ālaya-vijñāna," or storehouse consciousness. That helped me, obviously.

Hey, it was an interesting read. However, I'm sorry to say, I can't seem to find the connection to the post apart from both talking about a "father-son" relationship, even though that's not the focus of this post…

This, but instead of chatting with AI, they install auto-clickers to play the games for them....

Not really their fault, the incentives are built like that. But still. I asked why they even play games that forces you to cheat. Shrug

My kid is younger than alpha, but fucking hates ai stuff. He just yells faaaaake and skips the ad.

He will probably have deep trust issues and not be able to discern real from fake from now on though, but I think we’re all heading for that.
