We're censoring the word 'God' now? Fuck me sideways.

[–] Abyssian@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I've had my 3 genie wishes planned out since I was a kid, but I'm starting to think if I can use a lot of commas in each wish I should be able to squeeze them down to 2 and use my 3rd one to wish for everyone who self-censors internet images or post titles to burst into flame.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Beaten to death with a giant asterisk.

[–] Abyssian@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

In this economy? Burying the bodies would bankrupt half their families. I haven't heard anything about spontaneous human combustion in decades now, and it's time we get that back in the news.

This isn't algospeak, it is censored as an insult, like Tr*mp.

There are like at least 100 people in this thead who lost their mind moment they saw the asterisk like a conservative hearing the word "socialism"

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

I'm usually pretty good at picking up on such nuances, but I'd never think of reading that as an insult. Maybe a joke, but even then, not a very good one. Good to know for future reference, though, to prevent any further losing of the mind, so to speak. G*d knows I have little enough to spare.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

It's like you're pretending the word is so repugnant to you that you don't want the full word dirtying up your comment history. It lies in the same vane as fake outrage and sarcasm.

It's typical in Judaism and some branches of Christianity. But why would someone who doesn't believe in God do it like the creator of this meme ?

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I literally just think its funny to censor certain random words, like G*d, Br*tish or b*n*n*

Religions are so weird with their little arbitrary and inconsequential rules.

Pretty sure the asterisk thing is a meme in itself these days. Like when people talk about Fr*nch people

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Welcome to internet newspeak, where all words are offensive and subject to bans or demonetization.

I really don't want to get my Lemmy account demonetized

I make like 1000 LemmyBucks a day from product placement ads and sponsors. Be sure to follow me, smash that like button, and check out my adult content on OnlyTankies.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (8 children)

How many LemmyBucks for feet pics?

Asking for a friend.

Jewish people blaspheme by writing God, YHWY, Yahweh, or Jehovah. This is where we get euphamisms such as "My Lord", "Eloheim", and others i cant remember.

Tbf it is kind of like drawing a picture of Mohammed and then putting hentai black censor bars over it

can't make it what the 14th word is. is it just a typo of deletion or some satanic phallus symbol?

Thank god for that asterisk. If there were a vowel there, I would have been absolutely triggered and literally shaking.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thank g*d for that asterisk. If there were a vowel there, I would have been absolutely triggered and literally shaking.

Outstanding bait with the asterisk

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The full word is of course "gid", a disease of herbivores, especially sheep, caused by the presence of larvae of the tapeworm Taenia multiceps in the brain and resulting in a staggering gait

Atleast in the old testament there's the threat of god to hold grudge at future generations.

Ehh, i think people genuinely believing in all that are dull to be polite.

Sporting competitions are a great proof of the incompetence of god, as every team and fan parts for their team to win, but only one team wins.
