There is no fucking singularity, you just fell for their marketing. None of those shitbots is gonna find the cure for cancer. It's all a massive fucking grift.

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 32 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is not the singularity, lol

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago

I would fucking welcome it. But this shit? Definitely not. Just peak grift.

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Nah, you fell for the marketing, and now you think the new technology is only corpo lobotomized chatbots.

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Will you join the hivemind or run from the killbots when the time comes?

Just take me down, killbots. I'm tired of this world.

3rd option, live in the smolweb, only use tech from 08 and before. Limit exposure to the world.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

4th option, try and make the world a better place for everyone instead of focusing just on our own comforts.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Oh for sure. I just dont exactly know how. People always say volunteer at homeless shelters and such and maybe I should. Its kind of scary though. Ive never been able to be part of a community type thing.

Start out small. Care for your neighbors. Put out "for free" boxes with stuff you don't need anymore. Look for clubs or groups that share your interests and try to engage with people. I'm struggling with this myself but every small step is going to add up eventually.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Good ideas. I do enjoy giving stuff away that can be used. Yeah, I have thought about clubs but I'm insanely busy with music performances etc I have no extra time for clubs at this time. I'd love to start a tech literacy privacy club to teach people.how to get away from big tech and use Foss/Linux etc, just not sure I'd even get 2 people for that.

There's not really any one thing any one person can do to fix everything. Any act to make the world a better place is worthwhile, even if you never even see its effects.

We're all just bees

Local bike activist groups are reaching critical mass and a great spot to make a real difference

Not where I live, in the heart of "one more lane bro" (and I'm not even a bike person. I live too far for it to be viable). Its disgusting the amount of development happening here while houses sit empty. Farms and forests and swampland flattened for gas stations and cardboard mcmansions. As if there weren't more than enough of those already.

I suggest a more tend to the part of the garden you can reach approach, your friends and family are a good place to start building connections and genuinely checking up on eachother

My family's a lost cause, all maga assholes except a couple. Friends all have their own families and dont listen to anything I say. I just need to find more like minded people I guess. Hard to do it alone.

I find friends in my activities, try finding groups online or otherwise for stuff you like

I both love and hate tech from 2008 and before.

Why? The capacitor epidemic...
