Stop growing shit we dont need like almonds in the desert. Its pretty damn stupid.

I'm not sure we should keep harping on water usage. Agriculture (especially in the american southwest) uses THE VAST MAJORITY of freshwater. Its not even close.
We should harp on the fact that they take up land, are loud, are being used for mass surveillance and state violence, and owned by billionaires. Thats reason enough to get rid of them. Oh and driving up electric bills (just got my letter this month telling me to conserve power becuase my bills going up. Theyre putting a data center here. Really pisses me off)
Where I'm at (US, decades behind), fb is still the most used platform. The entire city is on it. everyone has it.
The issue. There is zero alternative. Ive asked this on here like 3 times. I either get no answers or someone says use matrix etc. Thats not like fb. I see no solution to this and nothing will ever change until we do. Signal.is the best thing becuase it almost carbon copied all the other messaging apps and it is very easy to switch someone over.
Someone trying to go to friendica or matrix from fb is going to be veeerryyyyy confused. Remember most people dont have a computer anymore and tech literacy is at an all time low.
Objectively yes, it was. The surveillance alone is reason for ye olden days (1999) being far superior to now. Even still, you could mostly insulate yourself from the modern world by only using pre 2015 or older tech and not having a smartphone. Only use Gemini protocol or gophernet for internet.
This is mostly how I live on weekends. Just hang out on irc if you need social contact.
If humanity just chilled, imagine what life could be
For sure ! I just have no one else to actually communicate with around here ha, not many techy people
Its a bummer because it would be excellent to have the peoples internet again just running Gemini protocol and gophernet over dial up again.
While youre dying I'll be, still alive
I do agree. It doesn't have to be an extreme. I guess if it works for you, great. I still would be very wary.
Not sure why you're getting the downvotes. Your comment is educated and makes sense. I'm still against the use of LLM's based on the fact they are pure theft, owned by billionaires, and destroying the earth, but I do agree, at least use it correctly and use the correct tool. If all information was paid for, all data centers owned by the public, completely transparent on the info they contain, and ran completely on renewable energy, there'd be nothing really wrong with the tech (other than creating slop that destroyed the internet and eroded trust in everything, which is a massive downside).
This is why people who don't know how computing works should be banned from touching anything LLM adjacent. The amount of misinformation makes me pull my hair out. Even them calling it "AI" is idiotic and I correct anyone using the term. It's a word generator. Or if you will, a bullshit generator built on stolen knowledge then sold back to you as slop.
Such bullshit. There should be no law against deleting your data.
