I mean… a dishwasher is already pretty much a robot that does the dishes.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Oh sweet baby jesus no it is not. The robot would load the dishes into the the dishwashing machine, then put the clean dishes away when the dishwashing cycle is complete.

[–] khanh@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

that definetely sounds doable, but no fuck you here's a dancing robot, here's a fighting robot, and here's a stripper robot.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Right? Dancing humans and fighting humans and stripping humans are already awesome.

I want a sink full of dirty dishes to turn in to a cabinet full of clean dishes, and a laundry basket full of dirty clothes to turn into a drawer full of clean, folded clothes.

Why is humanity even bothering anymore? Nobody asked for a robot that writes novels and paints. Just shut it all down. Fuck this.

It's not so doable as it turns out. The whole dancing routine can be preprogrammed once you figure out balancing and gross motor skills, which they did. But the dishes is fine motor skill, spatial awareness, object manipulation. It would be a lot easier if each plate, utensils and cooking ware would have a grip for robot grippers and a QR code, with a fixed cubby in the dish washer and cabinet. Lacking that, a lot more work needs to be done in better robot hands, perception, reasoning and manipulation.

Just load your dishes wrong and then you can put them away in garbage bags.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

I tried that in my early 20s. Luckily I still had a Frisbee left for cereal.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But it doesn't put them away

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Two dishwashers no cupboards is the answer.

Well now we've just reinvented the victorian concept of a woman

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The real money is in creating the robots that will clean and maintain the sex bots.

That will be done with convict labor from the now surplus population. Cheaper

[–] iatenine@piefed.social 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sexbots are a lot easier though, all they have to do is lie there, take it, and tell us what we want to hear. LLMs are already reasonably good at the last bit.

[–] Fetus@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

"You're absolutely right, there is no such sex move referred to as The Cincinnati Slapshot, and it was wrong of me to request that. If you like, I can suggest a different move instead?"

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The only people who could afford them already have human servants. They just want sex dolls. And friends. Robots to admire their "wit".

[–] the_strange@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago

Not to burst your bubble, but they don't want dolls. That's a service that was originally provided by Epstein, now whoever has become his successor.

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 7 points 1 week ago

Everything is fuckable at least once.

Not for another three million years, smeghead.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Personally, I would like an anime sexbot monstergirl, with a onahole tail.

I want a bot that can build a house

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Sure, but the dishes, laundry, and putting it away was a nice addition. Throw in a lawn and garden bot, and a I'll make dinner if your to busy bot.. and I wouldn't have to remember the chicken is infact still in the freezer 10 minutes before I intended to eat it, with a plan that originally included me making something that took an hour and a half.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My lawn bot is pretty nice. Doesn't do the edges well, but it keeps the lawn trim all summer.

Still not commercially available unfortunately. Also they not showing tons of other things like plumbing, electrical, concrete foundation, sewer etc, mechanical. None of that stuff is automated. I want heavy duty robot that can pour concrete and do entire building cycle so I can just move in

The electrical and plumbing are the hard part. You're gonna need to hire a subbot for those

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Sex bots make zero sense to me.

The entire appeal of sex is that there’s another person involved! Two (or more) humans working together to make each other feel good!

Like, if you’re not going to have another real human involved, why not just a vibrator/dildo/fleshlight?

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

It's essentially a fancy sex toy on the same level of a vibrator. That said there's a fair amount of people who seem to struggle to find mates to have sex with and have even turned to using or even loving dolls.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Allow me to introduce the incels.

Hard to get that experience when no one wants to be around you at all, let alone naked.

[–] underscores@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

sex feels nice but I don't see why we cant have both, my partner and I own toys of different kinds and I don't see this as being any different

Human connection (sex) threatens the world order.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think the ideal home robot would be two or three separate arms that ride in tracks along the ceiling, long enough to unfold down to the reach the floor. They'd be out of the way, no need to recharge, they can forego all the balancing and walking hardware and software, they'd be very strong and have the leverage of being attached to the house. Most tasks only need one, but some tasks are better performed with two. They could even move furniture. Of course, houses would need to be redesigned to accommodate them. For instance, doors would need to go all the way to the ceiling.

One step further? Okay, here's a weird one.

Another task they could perform is to manipulate a sex doll mannequin while you wear AR goggles to make the doll look like whatever you want. It doesn't need to be a complicated doll, since all the visual is handled by the goggles. They'd be cheaper, too, you could afford more than one. In... different shapes.

[–] DrSoap@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Sometimes all it takes is an idea. I really like the idea of this with a robot claw that can take dishes out of the sink and put them in the dishwasher and take the laundry out of the hamper, washer and dryer and then fold it.

And the dolls can be made with silicone and since you are using VR you don't have to waste resources on aesthetics

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Why not both? I want both.
