two hour flight to London with RyanAir was an absolute nightmare for me, and i'm ~196 cm which isn't even that tall.

it really sucks that my options are either to suffer or to pay more.

Where the hell are you from where 196 cm isn't tall? We're the same height and I loom over nearly everyone I meet like a fucking giant.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Netherlands probably. 180 cm is the average for a man there.

[–] feannag@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

16 cm is a pretty big difference. Thats almost 10% and surely more than a standard deviation above.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

That's being bigger, not looming over everyone. Find yourself in a group of Asian tourists who are often not even chest height for some good looming.

Northern Germany, Netherlands, Denmark. I felt I was tall before moving to the area. Now I feel just below average.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Ah, that tracks. A large fraction of my genealogy is from that area.

From the Czech Republic. I mean, I am tall, but I still know like three people taller than me.

195cm is definitely tall! At 200cm, I can literally no longer fly unless I save up for business class. My legs simply do not fit into a coach seat. Coach hurts. I would have to be a contortionist to attempt coach.

I think the worldwide average for men is something like 172-175cm so you are definitely tall. That said, it's still abhorrent that some people are not allowed to fly remotely comfortably because of a handful of their genes.

Easily fixed by not using those scummy twats Ryanair...

Having no moral WRT your travel choice can hurt, I don't feel sorry for you.

[–] stepan@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 weeks ago

fair, but it was never my choice, i'm a student and the only times i traveled by plane were with someone who paid for me and decided what to use.
