Basically, looking at history of federated messaging protocols (SMS and email), they are permanently frozen in time, and haven't had security improvements for decades.
Signal team considers this tradeoff unacceptable, as highly targeted individuals rely on Signal to always keep it's security model up-to-date against the most capable adversaries.

The beauty of Graphene is it's sandboxing and exploit protections are built precisely on assumption that the user will install every single piece of malware out there. The OS doesn't trust anything by default.

Hosting videos is extremely expensive, thus there is a financial incentive against hosting a PeerTube instance.
