Can you do this from an iPhone?

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 22 points 4 weeks ago

Yes. The Orion browser on iOS supports both Firefox and chrome plugins.

Also heard of https://github.com/fer0n/Unwatched but already switched back to Android before I got a chance to try it out.

[–] hopesfall@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Really surprised that this is readily available on the app store, tried it out for a bit and it seems to be working. Didn't sign in yet but it looks pretty safe.

Thanks for the heads up.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 5 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah, I was surprised as well. I believe most of these kind of apps get around it by advertising as a RSS Reader or generic Mediathek. But from the Screenshots its hard to mistake it for something other than a YT Client. Guess Apple does dont care about it as much as Google would.

If it works maybe we should keep it on the down low. Also only heard of it by chance.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You can use an android phone and block all the ads. This is what deterred me from iPhone last time. Greyjay, pipepipe, etc. No ads. Plus uBlock for Firefox. Among other huge advantages.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 5 points 4 weeks ago (7 children)

Adguard on iPhone does that, as with android it sets up as a VPN and blocks adds in all apps.

What amateurs still watch YouTube with ads? Every platform has plenty of easy solutions to bypass it.

jesus fuck people still rawdog the internet and willingly subject themselves to ads?

never see another ad again: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

this works on mobile too :3

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 15 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (3 children)

Also, Newpipe for mobile and FreeTube for PC

Edit: Someone in this thread mentioned Pipepipe, a fork of Newpipe with extra features. I had not heard of it, but it's worth investigating

People. What. The. Fuck?

Why does everyone freak out about the adds and not the level of brainrot this is. Like how do you actually function in your daily life if you can't stop watching content for a 5min shower? I have ADHD but I feel like I am amateur attention span issues and this is competitive ranked grand master attention span issues

Yes I am judging and maybe even shaming you.

Okay not shaming you because doing so is negative and I genuinely hope you get better if you have attention span issue. Smooches on you

[–] blartcap_@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 weeks ago

Considering the phone is out of reach, it's probably to listen to a podcast or music. Shower radios have existed for decades after all.

[–] Nindelofocho@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

So I dont watch stuff in the shower but I do kinda HAVE to watch something to go to sleep. If I dont I cannot go to sleep or I sleep pretty bad because I kinda just go into a weird depressive mental state. I know its not good and it does need to be fixed. Im just currently NOT in a situation where I can get help on it so I use it to hold it as a temporary workaround for now. I do imagine other people have a worse version of this.

[–] NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net 6 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Can I recommend some music like Sigur Ros or something instrumental that involves less bright light in your face hammering the part of your brain that controls the "its daytime, stay awake" response.

I may be biased and ignorant cause I need pitch black and at most a fan one roon away to even run the chance of getting to sleep. Saying that if I have anything caffeinated after about 5pm I'm awake until 1am with my brain trying to make me kms, so I at least know how that one feels.

Why are got guys watching ads?

Seriously, I don't get it.

You don't have to watch ads on YouTube. Not on your TV, not on your phone.

I get listening to music in the shower, although I don't. Watching videos while taking a shower? Maybe while taking a bath.

But, really, you can't step away from media for a few minutes a day for some peace and quiet?

Suffering through being alone with your thoughts is the first step toward better mental health. Your issues don't go away if you ignore them, they just get worse. You know this, so make an effort for yourself.

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 weeks ago

I don't want to be going through therapy while I'm lathering up my asshole. I wait for the weekend to do mushrooms about it

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 24 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Is it really impossible for people to just watch their dicks (or equivalent) for a few minutes a day?

or you can use adblock on a browser, and not use the app.

[–] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 13 points 4 weeks ago

There are levels of brainrot I hopefully never achieve. Though I noticed it's become difficult to just brush my teeth in the evenings..

Grayjay works perfectly and has adblocking built-in.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I'm using NouTube on Android via fdroid. It has YouTube and YouTube Music together in one app and automatically skips both ads and sponsorship segments. Basically free premium, at least on Android.

Getchu one of these.

For those who play YouTube or other videos in the shower, it is really nice. Make sure it fits your case though. My wife doesn't use ours because her otter box monstrosity wont let the cover shut.
