something about changing the original feels like a shitty thing to do to a good message

Almost feels astroturfy with how the original has been basically buried

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No. It’s not a good message. This was an ad for their fucking content. They are famous for this.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 month ago

They didn't even come up with their own quote, it's like some cheesy tautology from a facebook "like" page from 2010...

I’ve been out of the loop. Why does this picture keep popping up everywhere?

[–] slevinkelevra@sh.itjust.works 56 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

The pic was taken on top of the ~~world trade center~~ edit: empire state building, thanks for the correction. The two people pictured scaled it and their original banner reads: "When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace." It is very memeable obviously. They have been arrested for their stunt.

world trade center

Empire State Building.

[–] slevinkelevra@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

corrected, thanks

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

You missed the part about it basically being an ad for their Netflix documentary 😉

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 month ago

This is a couple famous for this shit promoting a Netflix documentary about themselves. You’re seeing an ad or people being used as useful idiots to spread an ad. Nothing to see but grift.

I hope you feel disgusted posting this

No. This looks like good old paint.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Look at her hand and eyes. Also her shirt is completely different.

[–] slevinkelevra@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Hm yeah I think somebody ran an AI upscaling. I was just looking at the text, AI would have done this very differently.

[–] black0ut@pawb.social 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's entirely AI generated. Look at the antenna. That's a batwing antenna, but it's missing an entire half. If you look at the original pic, it's complete.

Edit: couldn't find the original photo rn, and I cba to find it, but here's another showing the complete shape of the batwing antenna:

[–] huppakee@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

2025 ai would have

[–] DrakeAlbrecht@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The rippled shadows suggest Photoshop, or at least GIMP.

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’ve seen so so many memes, but still haven’t seen someone post the real picture

[–] wabafee@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This could have been an email.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's such a lame, mealy mouthed "message".

How come it seems like nobody on this planet has any real convictions?

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 13 points 1 month ago

It’s because they are famous for this and likely filming part 2 of a Netflix doc or diesel ad (they are sponsored by them).

It’s fucking fake. That’s why cnn waisted near two hours on this. It was a fucking ad.

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They engaged on the summit, maybe it wasn't a message tailored to society but their proposal ceremony.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago

How could "the world knows peace" ever be anything but a message to society?

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This is something they do every time they do this. Get up there make out laugh at how stupid people are for not immediately googling them and realizing it’s a fucking ad and they are famous for this.
