This is the Preview channel update. People that opted into it should anticipate issues.

[–] owiseedoubleyou@lemmy.ml 11 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

No it isn't. I have a secondary Windows machine and I got that update without being on any insider channel.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Preview is not Insider. You have to manually select Preview channel updates.

Still, i'm on the main branch.

Another day... another windows update failure...

(read in the darkest dungeon's narrator voice)

I have more interest in starting a WatchWindowsDie group than I do in going back to Windows, but it seems like the entire internet is already on the beat.

Windows will not die so easily. Two reasons: 1. Too much money behind and around it. 2. Sheer corporate inertia. 3. As long as there is no competition to the AD/Entra ecosystem, companies will buy it. Ok, three reasons.

The French Gardia switched over to an in house Linux distro and now a lot of governments and companies are watching to see what happens.

I have a duel boot setup and it's been a year since I had to boot into Win11. Seriously concerned with what is going to happen when I have to use it.

It's been like 2.5 years for me. There's been a few annoyances and games that didn't work, but I've never actually gone back

I should probably just reclaim the drive at this point

Or, y'know, just install Linux?

Some people would rather just die than make even the tiniest change, even if that change will make their lives infinitely better

[–] MangoPenguin@piefed.social 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Has it occurred to you that it's not a tiny change for a lot of people?

They have the wallpaper locked at work somehow. Thanks for the reminder I need to stylise my cursor again. Black with green border.

At home, I’ve been Windows free for a few years now.

If it was Windows Mint, a random update wouldn't be breaking everything.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago

Glad I got out when I did.
