Not sure much missing a class but showing up and having an exam that I'd not heard of nor studied any of the material for

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

No, but potentially because that happened IRL to me.

[–] Dan68@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I graduated in 99 and I have these dreams.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago

I graduated at 99 and I have these dreams.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 6 hours ago

I used to have those dreams when I was starting something new - a new school year, or a new job. It's my imposter syndrome, manifesting in a dream.

[–] rants_unnecessarily@piefed.social 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Does it matter that you fail it, if you don't remember you enrolled?

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

If you paid for the class, or need to keep a scholarship, maybe. If not, maybe not.

[–] rants_unnecessarily@piefed.social 1 points 41 minutes ago

Oh right. School costs over there.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

I'm 40. I dream of missing the school bus.

Some times I dream of getting on the school bus but having forgotten to put on shoes.

I dream of being late for a cubicle data processing job I haven't worked at for 7 years. (I worked for them for 11 years though). I then go on to do the work in the dream.

Like my brain torturing me.

[–] miseducator@lemmy.world 35 points 18 hours ago

Graduated twenty years ago and still have these dreams.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 26 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Kept getting the “you have to go back for one class we didn’t account for” dream for years after graduating. It was always a language requirement too.

[–] littlewonder@lemmy.world 2 points 21 minutes ago

It's always math for me.

[–] phonics@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Damn, I didn't realize I hace those dreams till your comment. I was like. How many damn highschool classes do I have to do I'm 30 years old already.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 12 hours ago

You missed the final and must beg the professor for a re-take.

[–] Ypsilenna@lemmy.zip 21 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

No, I also have them. Sometimes they are about a single subject, and sometimes they are like, "Oops, I accidentally forgot to go to school for three years."

[–] laurenceOfSuburbia@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

Just out of curiosity - are you a heavy drinker and this happens during withdrawals?
Like u drank heavily on Saturday night, do you get this doom paniky feeling with nightmares night Sunday to Monday?

[–] Ypsilenna@lemmy.zip 11 points 19 hours ago

I don't drink, actually. I am just prone to being anxious by default, and it usually happens when I get stressed.

"Modern education systems are definitely not traumatically abusive and most certainly are not creating PTSD-riddled students who struggle to function in society."

The students in question 3 nights a week:

[–] hikaru755@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

I mean, I get your point, but I feel like this is something different. I sailed through school and university with great grades with barely any effort, never felt any kind of pressure around that on me. The worst it got was the occasional vocab test that I put off learning for until the evening before. I liked school. And I still get this kind of dream occasionally. So at this point, it seems more like anxiety will just latch onto that kind of thing, whether it was actually traumatic or not

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 16 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

“Turns out I didn’t graduate after all” nightmares love to haunt me during particularly stressful times

[–] undefinedTruth@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 hours ago

It's the opposite for me. I actually dropped out when I was right at the finish line due to a particularly good job offer at the time. From time to time I get dreams about finally graduating, then I wake up... I mean I don't regret my decision back then and certainly with the experience I have now no employer cares, but boy it does hurt.

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 5 points 19 hours ago

Do you ever get "oh no I forgot I parked that car/motorcycle I own and used to drive over around here somewhere? Have to walk around the blocks and look for it" dreams

[–] rimjob_rainer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 18 hours ago

I didn't know that so many of us share the same dream.

[–] olejellylegs@lemmy.zip 6 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

I keep dreaming of attending a university to see if I want to take an advanced degree program there.

However, while I participate to a degree, I have zero obligation to participate in the class or anything final at all. Of course the class is full of everyone I’ve known since high school and college.

I always wake up from those dreams melancholy.

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 15 hours ago

That and also being at school and forgetting where my classes are.

[–] LoonyLenny@lemdro.id 9 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

I have a recurring dream about being unaware there was a test in class today, and then I cant even find the classroom.

I haven't had a dream like that before but it would be comical to be walking into like 3rd grade petrified you can't find your class and get escorted to where you are supposed to be and being handed a test. Bam, it's a 3rd grade test. You fucking crush that thing, feel like a champ and wake up feeling like you know you got 100.
They thought they were going to trick me with 7x8 or 6x7? Psh. Those have been up there for 30 years.

[–] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I show up with no clothes on all the time. I’m not pleasant to look at with no clothes on

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Is that what the people tell you in your dream or is that just your opinion? Maybe some of them are to shy to let you know they are interested. If a movie can pull off "well it was cute that they forgot" I'm sure a dream could.

[–] drcobaltjedi@programming.dev 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Never had those. I do regularly have dreams where due to some quirk of the rules or something my 3rd grade education or something didn't count thus invalidating the rest of my education.

So I show up going "hey I'm like 30, can you just hand me a test or the years homework and I'll be back next week" only to be told no, so I end up redoing the whole grade.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

i had a similar variation of that dream, somehow no one is the wiser too despite being older, it mostly started after i job hunting after graduating.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

i had these dreams before, while job searching after graduation. "was i still enrolled in a class in the same college i went to, but partially attended but never seen a transcript from it " or in the school i was before .

[–] rimjob_rainer@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 18 hours ago

Working for 12 years now after graduation. My most recurring dream is that I actually did not complete one maths lecture and still have to do it. I enroll in university again and have a few months for preparation but I only start studying a few days before the exam. Then I don't have a clue what the fuck that even is about and fail miserably during the exam. Normally I wake up during exam but always before I get the results.

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 3 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

No, that was my life so I didn’t dream it, I lived it.

I did manage to graduate 20y later, but it did require regular 5/9-5 work for a decade. ADHD probably.

[–] AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago

I still experience nightmares of failing my job training exams even though I did a-okay in all of them and it's been 15 years since. o_O

[–] AnarchoEngineer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 18 hours ago

For the first time ever I don't have class every day and my mind keeps going “OH SHIT WE FORGOT TO GO TO CLASS!” Even though like… we had this same realization five minutes ago you stupid brain. Why are we freaking out again?

[–] Ertain@feddit.online 1 points 14 hours ago

Why am I reminded of that scene from Top Secret where Nick Rivers dreams he's late for an exam? He is then told that it's the end of the semester, and all the exams are over.

[–] Boozilla@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I haven't been a student for many years, but shitty dreams like this occasionally haunt me. Lots of variations on the theme. Lost textbooks. Lost homework. Lost locker. Forgotten locker combo. Can't find the classroom. Forgot I signed up for a class. Just generally can't get my dream shit together.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 18 hours ago

Took me decades to break out of the "on the bus but can't get to the front to get off at my stop". Now I'll probably have a relapse thanks to this reminder. But the late/missed class, those dreams suck.

[–] Lycist@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

I have dreams where I go back, attend 1 class out of like 7 for the day, but forget where all the other classes are as well as what they are. I end up having to go to the school office to get my class roster so I can attend the other classes, but its all rushed because I'm late for that next class.

[–] OnyxRex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 16 hours ago

Asynchronous baybeeee.

..but yes. every day this month.
