Me, when learning what they do for work and they're a mechanical engineer working on rocket thrusters for weapons, and "business is really good right now so I can't complain"
If I can’t escape the conversation at that point, I just see if I can work in all of the names of the seven dwarves to entertain myself.

They won’t notice if it’s done well and even if they do notice, what are they gonna do?

My washer went out several years ago, and when I was at rhe laundromat I decided to chat with this old man there because why not, he looks lonely and I'm bored af. Two sentences in he starts rambling about how the whole world is degenerate and that the end is coming soon....
