Thor does briefly start getting more like Norse Thor in Avengers Infinity War. Then he shortly becomes a hopeless alcoholic and mellows out to Disney Thor again.

Being from a Nordic country, I could never get into the Thor movies due to how ridiculous everything about the fake lore was.

Which wouldn't be a problem except they're the only ones with the always brilliant Kat Dennings in them 😭

[–] Captain_Buddha@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The ( . )( . ) always brilliant, Kat Dennings.

Not what I meant but sure, doesn't hurt either πŸ˜„

You ever play God of War Ragnarok?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, but didn't get very far before I got frustrated by all the puzzles and quit.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The puzzles are like some of the worst shit in GoW to me. However, everyone says you can't remove it because it's SO apart of the game. I just really enjoyed their take on Nordic mythology.

I don't even remember the first 3 games having puzzles unless you count the QTEs as puzzles. It was pure action.

But also: Why does Odin sound like he's from New York?

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

lol ... yeah the first three were pure action to me ... I mean, unless you count putting that woman to hold the wheel to keep the gate open which then kills her a puzzle too ....

But also: Why does Odin sound like he’s from New York?

lol I mean there's no arguing that, but I fucking love that actor ... but I definitely can't defend what you said 🀣

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 1 points 2 weeks ago

Why do they all sound like Americans?

I agree with you COMPLETELY on both counts 😁🫢🏼

I tried getting into Ragnarok but Atreus was so annoying compared to the first and the Angrboda sections I found so incredibly boring it put me off of completing the game.

[–] VonReposti@feddit.dk 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I solved that by simply thinking of it like a generic SciFi/Fantasy movie that coincidentally had some overlapping names with Nordic mythology. Still not great movies, especially after they just made everything into a comedy.

I tried to do that too. I failed to, though.

Still not great movies

True. Chris Hemsworth has been good in exactly two movies, (as a hilarious himbo in Ghost Busters and as James Hunt in Rush) and Kat Dennings doesn't get enough screentime to improve the movies beyond "bad to mediocre" quality.

What about Thor according to Douglas Adams?

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 18 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

How about Terry Pratchett?

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How about Adventures in Babysitting?

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Pretty wild that same actor also played Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket and the bug alien in Men In Black

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

That is pretty wild! I would have never even suspected!

[–] FuyuhikoDate@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Still reading his books, so I dunno about Thor in the TP universe :D

Does he appear in a discworld related book?

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know, I just wrapped up The Colour of Magic and am about to read the next one.

[–] FuyuhikoDate@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah OK, I mentioned Douglas Adams, because dirk gently books Thor appears :)

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 2 points 2 weeks ago

More books I need to read...

[–] Kratzkopf@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 weeks ago

Do you mean Blind Io in Discworld or does Thor show up in another of Sir Pterry's books? Blind Io is more a compilation of multiple Roundworld gods.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

But what about the historically accurate version?

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

Too long ago and nobody wrote it down.

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 3 points 2 weeks ago

Elon Musk is going to create it with grok.

Just some guy with a hammer. Could fix anything, except his marriage.

Ancient incels liked his message about power and the subjugation of wenches to their men folk, and thus deified him as an arbiter of truth, valor, and justice

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait until you read pretty much any source material whatsoever for any of the original Disney movies or older kids movies, like the little mermaid or Willy Wonka.

If the source is european fairy tail prepare for gore.

They're very fashionable these days

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Ragnarok addressed this directly by showing Thor's family was guilty of committing atrocities, but Thor himself is innocent.
