Current buyers are looking to cut back on spending, rather than dramatically increase. And that's based on current prices which are being subsidised by burning investor money, not the prices they need to charge to make a profit.

Cloud and apps didn't need trillions in investment to still not get off the ground. There isn't really any scenario in which current AI spending doesn't turn out to be excessive.

That's because the amount of AI investment looks like orders of magnitude more than anyone is willing to pay for AI products.

They were happy about spending billions, but now the bubble is into the trillions and there isn't tens of trillions in market demand to make an investment that big pay off.

Long time Linux user here.

Microsoft would fuck up their implementation of the standard, monitors would all be designed around Microsoft bugs and then OSs that implement the standard correctly have to break their stuff so that Windows monitors will work.

They're such money pits that they can't be bailed out - give them a hundred billion dollars and they'll be back next month for more.

They aren't a functioning business that just needs help getting back to profitability or help with some sort term crisis, they take hundreds of billions and set it on fire.

We need to be hearing AI customers saying "This is so great, we're going to double our AI spend next year!"

We're actually hearing "What's the ROI on this? We're looking to cut back."

That's just not consistent with the exponential growth OpenAI and Anthropic need to survive.

Kagi. Because it's a paid service, they aren't constantly looking for ways to sell their user base's time, attention and data to their real customers. You are the customer.

Don't want AI? Turn it off and you'll never see it again.

We used to have LAN parties back in the day with dialup internet.

We'd need a dedicated machine to just dial up to the internet and share the connection, because that way it could run for a day or more at a time without crashing and kicking everyone off.

I remember the moment where I realised I could just... plug the modem into my new XP machine now. You could use a computer and share internet and it'd work! For days!

There's a reason XP hung on for so long and the previous versions didn't. XP was the first version of Windows that people felt was good enough and they didn't need anything more.

Someone warn Jeremy Clarkson to make himself scarce for the duration.

I'd pay good money for glasses that displayed a grey rectangle over real life ads.

I put two dollars into a poker machine once. I won $7.

Now I'm up by $5 so long as I never gamble again. Don't want to break my streak.

They'd be printing millions, but they need the promise of future trillions to try and maintain their status as a growth stock.

We got faster, but what we got faster at doing was creating busy work for each other. So the volume of work is higher but the signal to noise ratio is lower.
