The utter bastardy of it all.

"Buckled on jazz cabbage" is a singular turn of phrase.

I would be stricken with grief if my reputation ever took a hit like that. I would resign and become a nomadic goat farmer. Or a bin man. Any job with heaps of shit, which is apparently my true calling.

TOS can't protect a company from legal requirements, and I'm not clear on what the legal requirements are in terms of safeguarding and content moderation but my initial hunch is that they're very lackluster. I hope that the suit will bring attention to this issue with legislative bodies, but I suspect that's the most that can be realistically hoped for.

They'd really love it if we could be dead and making money for them. They live in hope!

You should leave a note. "Did you lose $100 here? Please do it again. Ha ha!"

Is Lemmy not precisely that? I'm having a great time having this be my only bullshit.

Not all true statements are on topic, I had to learn the hard way too. I know how it is

The scarcity you're talking about is cosmic in scale, and doesn't have a lot to do with the false scarcity people are talking about.

That was the part of my answer I wasn't as happy with, admittedly. The way things are in the states make it really hard to see how you'd set up a politically independent, impartial yet informed, and corruption-resistant governing body for any kind of pot of public money. Especially a pot of money that would be clawed away from tyrannical billionaires who would have every reason to want to ratfuck the thing or get their money back.

There's no reason there couldn't be a national endowment for open source, the way there is (or was) for the arts. A non partisan governing body would direct and oversee funds towards projects for the creation, dissemination, promotion, and maintenance of open source software for the whole world. Funding could come from a big tech wealth tax, and governance could be drawn and elected by top maintainers as a bylaw. Just off the top of my head.

Obviously "reshape society completely" is a preferable option, I'm just daydreaming

Delightful, hilarious, and potentially even worth having!
