It can definitely come in handy. Although I went as far as leaving a wireless Zigbee button by my couch so I can dim the lights or toggle power on my AV stuff without getting up. I haven't replaced the battery yet, and it's been 2 years.

In the same line of thinking, this is why I hand wash my car, because the automatic car wash either does a bad job (touchless) or will scratch the paint up all over (brushes). Many people don't care very much about their cars though, so why put in the effort?
I find unreliable tools to be one of the most infuriating parts of my job, and unfortunately my entire job has effectively pivoted to spending all day babysitting an AI that frequently ignores instructions and can't learn without a ton of expensive fine-tuning training.
I don't let AI touch any of my personal code I care about, and with how much of the code at work is written by AI, it's pretty demoralizing. Why put in any effort designing something if it's just going to get blown away by a coworker's agent the next day?
Arguing with the AI over why its code review is wrong is also a whole other part of my day now...
Personally I went out of my way to put physical buttons around my house so I can use Home Assistant automations without talking. It has the added bonus that guests can just turn the lights on and off without a tutorial.
Just to add to this... some of the videos on YouTube are actual full ads. The content itself is an ad, so what should Google do? Ban YouTube Premium users from watching those videos? (I'm thinking like old Superbowl ads)
I don't see how Google could possibly make a determination of what is and isn't an ad, when Sponsor Block can barely figure out the categories. I doubt we could expect creators to self-identity sponsored segments, and I could easily see that system being abused.
People get really creative with their sponsors sometimes, doing entire skits to try and get you to keep watching. There's no clear way to determine what an ad even is when it's uploaded by the creator.
Yeah... if the strategy ends up giving people you don't want in office extra votes, that just seems completely backwards. It just increases the chances that the worst candidate gets elected, which to me sounds worse than just having the wrong party win.
They've been trying to build that, and they even demo'd a prototype after spending a few billion, but it was too expensive to sell.
Slim AR displays are science fiction technology, and the best they can do right now is still quite limited compared to passthrough VR. They can't hit nearly the same FOV or resolution yet in transparent displays, you either get readable text or a wide FOV, but not both. There's a reason Google Glass was only a tiny thing in the corner of your vision.
The water they're evaporating is not the same water flowing through servers. There would be a heat exchanger so that all the anti-corrosion additives stay in the closed loop side.
Any additives at all in the evaporative side would just get concentrated more and more as water evaporates. Pure distilled water would be ideal since there would be no residue to periodically clean, but at the scale they need it, they basically have to use lightly filtered river water as far as I know.

Based on that, the input power is a constant because they are comparing against the same motor. I would assume the power consumption is constant rather than bursty for either propulsion system, so there isn't any peak-vs-avg power to be concerned about either.
One of the first things that page says is that it generates less force than a standard marine propeller. That seems like it'd be less efficient and use more fuel to me.
I guess you must live in that part of Alaska where it's night time for half the year and don't have daylight.
I view this more like a Pandora's Box situation rather than a genie. I agree though, we'll never be able to go back to what it was like before LLMs, and that makes me sad. We just have to live with it now.
