This has to be the most useless red circle I’ve ever seen.
They’re both problems. Why do you think the water usage isn’t a problem?
The article doesn’t seem to be accurate, or at least the CRS research is inaccurate. Literally one of the links stated that one company used 23 billion gallons in 2023. That might be worldwide, but the U.S. has the most data centers of any nation, so it’s unlikely to have offset how much is actually being used. And yet the CRS report says it’s only 17 billion in 2023?
AI;DR
Huh? External sound does not mean the object produces sound.
Yes we all understand that. There is a second joke though, about vegetables.
… we had autocomplete that worked better before LLMs came along. If you’re not using an LLM to generate more code then what the fuck is the point.
I gave one example. In fact that’s one of the least bad examples. If that was the only problem with LLMs it wouldn’t really be that bad. But the actual reality is so much worse. But I was arguing to the point that the person I replied to made, which was about development. The problems I have with AI are not fixable without literally every government on earth taking a stand, which just will not happen.
The overwhelming majority of software development occurs on a team. You understanding what you’ve asked an AI to do doesn’t mean jack when you need to make sure an entire team can understand it five years from now. And LLMs tend to write code that is incomprehensible to another person the next day.
Huh… they’ve literally stuck AI into every product they’ve created and in the process slowed them down and caused them to use ten times the number of resources they used to use. I just got a new job and I opened 5 different tabs with Google products and my computer slowed to a crawl. I tested in two browsers and both browsers were using literally 4gb of ram just for the fucking Google products.
And they’re training AI on all the stuff you’ve stored with them over the years. Photos, music, emails. Instead of being just bad in one sector they’re bad in every sector.
Seems to me like everything is instead becoming even more bloated with AI stuff. A Google chat tab uses 2 GIGABYTES on my work computer.
