That's why I said we don't know the overall effect on the biome due to less efficient engines

With how quickly we industrialized, my intuition is we were mining and burning it as fast as possible, but maybe more efficient engines could have let us mine and burn even more

40 years of burning far more coal than necessary due to inefficient engines

Whether the overall effect was positive or negative with respect to the biome, no clue

Cambridge University found that the steam engine was held back for ~40 years because of bad patents

Every DRAM manufacturer has pled guilty to price fixing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRAM_industry_price_fixing

If we still have governments holding them accountable, then it will go down. If we don't, it won't

If you're able to have swap, Zswap is supposed to be better.

Zram is intended for devices with no swap

Why is that surprising?

The push for more data centers has just been to fleece investors. There isn't any organic demand for the output from them

Have to be careful, though. You need a curated social media presence...

Not having social media is considered suspicious in the US https://papersplease.org/wp/2025/05/30/us-state-dept-says-silence-or-anonymity-on-social-media-is-suspicious/

It had value, before it bought xAI.

Now there's an infinite money pit attached to it

Where in the source does Firefox expose machine-id to websites?

With a quick grep I'm only seeing it around audio?

Yeah, you can certainly get cheaper laptops, but if you're looking for similar build quality, it's not that much more

I would also say, for me, the peace of mind with how easy it is to fix is worth it. I used to stress over my wife or nephew or someone wanting to do something on my laptop, but now if they poke the screen with their finger I just think I can fix it in 5 minutes if they mess it up
