They can buy billions of sticks, but they'd be useless, because they didn't get them the right way. I myself would not appreciate a stick that I bought regardless of how much money it cost.

Once you understand this, you can also find rocks and seashells worth more than trillions of money.

So you can argue about the quality and/or sentimental value of ownership of sticks, but that's also not the point.

It's your own appreciation of the stick that makes it valuable. You can not get that, unless you just get it.

Can't buy it, can't sell it, can't even give it away, but it exists and you get it. It is real.

I have a lot of shit. I also have a piece of cardboard shaped like a fish that I appreciate. On my deathbed I will not ask to touch my latest car or the cobber stringed guitars. I'll ask for the cardboard that I value the most, because it was gifted to me. And that's just sentimental value.

A good stick is even beyond that. My appreciation of a good stick is such that I cannot even claim to own it. It's not sentimental value or ownership or history or quality. A proper good stick is one that you want to pass on.

I have a bunch of them, so theoretically I'm the richest man alive. At least currently, because like I just said, they don't really belong to me. I have to give them away to realize the value of the asset. Just like stocks and money.

I think AI could have a good tool for specific purposes and also a very lucrative business if only they had not thrown all that money at it.

The extreme investments forced them to roll it out prematurely over a much larger market that it could ever supply in a meaningful way.

I think it's different from XP in that they made an already paid product entirely unusable.

On XP I could at least continue using it many years past the EOL, offline, or online at my own risk. The EOL of Windows 10 removes my option to use the software that I paid for and also the hardware that I paid for, for the purposes that I bought it for in the first place. I paid for the license and I paid for the hardware. It's fine if they stop supporting it, but there's no reason for making it unusable for backward compatibility.

They're basically forcing people to repurpose their almost new hardware, sold until recently as "Windows machines", for Linux.

Look, Microsoft left windows 10 to rot. The only update they're shipping is the nag screen for Windows 11. When you get the update, it hogs all your ressources to download the entirety of Windows 11 and keep it in ram, only to show a blue screen that says "Your pc can't run Windows 11".

Click OK/cancel/whatever, doesn't matter, because nothing happens. Then it repeats the whole downloading update procedure from the beginning next time you reboot.

If for some reason you need Windows on a less than brand new machine, then your only option is to disable updates or else it just won't work.

Yeah BYD will survive, but smaller brands like hiphi, neta, nio, LI auto, etc. There are more than 160 different Chinese brands trying to enter the markets. Most of them will or have already failed in Europe, even if they are active in other countries.

Plenty of new European brands have also failed for the same reasons.

I do see some chinese brands on the road, but not many in comparison to other more established brands.

The thing keeping people away from chinese brands is the uncertainty of future repairs. The "flood" might come in a few years once people have more experience with how it's handled. Currently, as people get their first EVs, they want to be able to take their VW to the VW shop, not take their BYD to the random no-name mechanic with a BYD sticker on their window.

Everyone is also waiting for the statistics from the EU inspections. Nobody wants a car that can't pass the inspection in a few years time. Tesla has proven to be a huge failure in that regard, and I think that will scare people away from not only Tesla, but also the unknown chinese brands who yet have to prove themselves.

It also doesn't help that these smaller brands pop up and go bankrupt in the same year as they scramble to find their markets.

EU brands might not be any better or cheaper, but at least they are better represented locally.
