This is pretty much what happens with every company that becomes popular. Eventually they begin to exploit their popularity to take back value from their own customers.
I wouldn't ever spend money on something that requires an app, an account, or an internet connection. Fortunately my car has dashcams built in.
They're just public cameras. They're notoriously used to capture and record the locations of vehicles via their license plates but realistically they totally could flip a switch and start using them for things like facial recognition overnight.

That switch does not work. It turns off the videos but still plays the video versions, which is even worse. I'm not sure it even knows the difference.
All modern cars are, unfortunately. But I can't go back to driving a gas car. I have a Slate on order.
