Some of my friends like to make "fake plans", just to talk or something I guess? Like they'll make up this whole vague scenario, but when I ask what date and time specifically, apparently that is the incorrect thing to ask

This is why privacy, no access encryption services, VPNs, etc, are becoming so popular. Not because anyone is planning to do anything illegal, but because we don't trust the people spying on us not to show up at your door. It's already happening, it wasn't dramatic or unrealistic like everyone says, even just this article proves it. You should be able to exist freely, without someone over-analysing every text.

Yeah I feel like very few people use desktops recreationally anymore… personally I enjoy just "existing" online on a computer. I like tinkering and just doing random stuff. That's why I use Linux exclusively now, because Windows makes it very hard for me to use the computer the way I want to
