That's just an additional thing for me. I spend around 100 bucks a month on patreon, but it's just not possible to do that with all channels I watch

Yes. But mostly because I know that my view pays the creators I watch orders of magnitude more that an ad based view

Being ad free is just a bonus I don't really notice because I have ad blockers anyway

Revenue is already largely based on watch time, so if people click away after a couple seconds, you didn't really get anything anyway. Plus you tell the algorithm that your videos will cause a room of people to leave quickly

maybe it was rolled out slowly over multiple regions. But it definitely started end of july. even the arstechnica post itself is alrady a week old
