The problem is that this is about normal LG screens, nothing smart about them.
Simply put, Microsoft detects you're using an LG screen, it downloads the appropriate drivers released by LG, and those drivers are in fact just nagware.
I know, but remember that the .scr format was invented on Windows 3.1. It was a very different world then. No internet, no emails for the average user.
It could have also been a proper .SCR (screensaver) file.
Because, fun fact: screensaver files on Windows are just renamed exes.
macOS uses fucking videos as wallpapers. Yes, you read that right.
Steam lets you play games that you bought, even if they've been delisted in the meantime.
Steam is the good guy (for now). GOG is even better though, since they let you save offline installers with no DRM.
You do own GOG games though, since you can download offline installers that has no DRM whatsoever.
Also piracy has not limits.
