If anything this is closing things down further. You can already use 3rd party app stores that you can just install from an apk, but this change along with the upcoming changes in September will coerce people towards using the play store even if it's just to download another app store first

Telemetry exists to aid enshittification. Widely hated update that has loads of people complaining online but causes no change in usage? Keep it. Update causes dip in usage? Post generic "we hear your concerns" statement, backpedal slightly and try again in 6 months. Beloved feature is only actually utilised by 5% of your users? Get rid of it.
This is worthless and does nothing about their duopoly as it only seems to be focused on payment methods. I don't give a shit about the payment options for in app purchases if I'm still forced to use the app store or play store to download the app in the first place. This should have been about preventing Google from killing sideloading and forcing Apple to allow it in the first place
