Turns out the physical tasks that hadn't been automated by 2015 were really hard and generally risky if you get them wrong. The risks of generating slop are minimal.

I don't think that would be an accurate summary of a situation in which children were groomed and raped, nor one in which the police eventually did their job, to be honest.

Regardless of the right wing weaponisation, going the complete opposite way on everything they're saying about it is a serious mistake.

Grooming gangs are paedophile rings that groom children. They became a cause celebre of the right because an extremely prominent case in the UK concerned one that was uncovered which consisted mainly of Asian and British-Asian men targeting white girls. Those white girls were, initially, dismissed by the police with the typical reasons. When concerns were raised, there was a reluctance to treat them seriously because those with responsibility were worried about perceptions of racism due to the race of those accused.

In the end, the police did investigate and got convictions. I just described the Rotherham case, I think there was another with some similarities.

I've never heard any international comparisons, and as far as I remember, white people commit more child sexual abuse in the UK per capita than other races, but obviously that doesn't stop the right wing weaponising it.

Yeah, 25 years ago!

You can do less! It still helps! (But I imagine you want to do that amount)

The most important thing is empathising, and if you express that by saying "that sucks" that's pretty good.

Physical exercise has a very good evidence base, as good as antidepressants and without side effects.

If I keep them at the back of the fridge they'll freeze onto the back wall so that sounds worse.

I only move eggs into the door if I can be bothered or run out of space to keep the box on a shelf and have never noticed a difference - I wonder if you've noticed this yourself or are just repeating advice? I don't really see how changes in temperature are likely to affect anything.

Five years? Wow, amazing achievement. I only know of a single fridge failing and that was when my dad, in his wisdom, sped up the defrost process with a screwdriver.

I've owned my current fridge, second hand, for 6 years, and judging by the age of the other appliances it's likely about 20 years old. The problem here is that the things which lead to appliances being bought (price, ratings) don't give you a 20 year view on it. You need 20 year warranties or consumer advocacy groups doing longitudinal studies!

The difference is significant but not enormous. Something like 15% of dog bites and 40% of cat bites become infected. Also almost all rabies infections are from dog bites, so the idea that "cat bites are more dangerous" is pretty misleading. I think most cat bite infections result in a mild bacterial infection that clears in a week or two.

The instances, according to his rambling post, were blocked because of admin stances on violence. I'm sure you've seen violent posts on Lemmy calling for people to be Luigid or whatever.

Similar to my stance on individuals, I think that stuff crosses a line and needs to be removed from the fediverse, but again it's not the place of a front-end developer to enforce that, especially not by muting the entire instance.

I think if he's right about instance admins, there's an argument to use the existing mechanism (defederation) which won't make me very popular, but hopefully clarifies where I stand.

Pretty sure I did too!
