I don't care that much about size. Not nearly as much as the "flagship" designation bullshit. How about we don't have to pay 5x as much, because it's a flagship and still let us have Graphene?

Nearly 18 percent steer clear of lane-keeping assist

I suspect these are also people who don't like to use turn signals. They don't like the car fighting their ill-advised lane change.

I'm one, but not because of "ill-adviced lane changes". In my case it's because I prefer to drive in the middle or little to the right of the lane. Note, I almost only drive on roads with a single lane in each direction.

I've had lane keep assist attempt to assassinate me, by jerking left in the lane, right as I was approaching a truck with a super wide load, with ΔV around 140km/h. After that I don't care how "safe" it makes me, I prefer to stay alive.

My car is from the same group as nissan. Luckily it doesn't get to set the speed limiter automatically. If that was the case I'd traded it long ago.

This makes me sound like I'm irresponsible. I'm not, I just happen to have a car with dangerously poorly designed "safety tech".

My car has sign recognition, cruise control, and lane keep assist. I use a single one, and one I can't turn off permanently.

Lane keep assist insists on making me drive way too far left, so I turned it off after it tried to kill me by forcing me into a super wide load truck coming towards me.

Cruise control keeps wanting to switch setting to the recognised speed limit. But it picks up all sorts of stuff. So driving by a highway on ramp will make it suggest that I put the speed limiter to 130km/h, on a 70km/h road. But turning off sign recognition requires me to go through several menus and is reset when I park.

On top of that the speedometer is 4-5km/h too slow, so I'll be going 84km/h according to the speedometer, my GPS says I'm going 80km/h, and I'll go by a sign and the speed limiter will pop up suggesting that I set it to 80. And btw that the speedometer is displaying a faster speed than I'm going, has nothing to do with wheel circumference. The car's odometer is spot on. If google maps says a trip is 300km then the odometer advances 300km, not 298 or 302.

Yeah, I found some interviews with the driver, marking the 15th anniversary etc. He seem pretty tormented by the fact that he killed two people. There's a whole philosophical/political debate on whether he should have been punished, but I think that's a bit too off topic even for me at this point.

Suffice it to say, it was a tragic event and it happened almost 30years ago. We can't do much about it, other than learning.

I don't know how "privacy friendly" the Chromium branded chromium browser is. But if I had to use a chromium browser, and Edge wouldn't suffice, that's where I'd look. Brave would probably be last on my list of browser choices, because I don't even trust the installer to not give me a little bit of Palantir flavored malware. And that's to a degree that I wouldn't even run it in a VM on my daily driver.

If I wanted to spy on privacy minded individuals, who are harder to spy on than the average person, then I'd launch some privacy product, work up the hype, and have it spy for me. I could have formulated that idea before Brave was launched. Seeing how Brave is associated with Palantir, to me it's already fishy. And when it's main selling point is privacy and conducts themselves exactly like I would have expected a malicious actor to do, then I just don't use Brave.

Why brave? I see a lot of seemingly tech savvy people using brave, and I don't get it. Edge or chrome can do the same, in terms of rendering, and you don't need to have software associated with Palantir installed.

I found sources stating that the platoon was wearing regulation lights. They had white light in front, red light in the rear, and were marching in three rows (sorry, don't know the correct English military term, Danish is "geled")

When I looked at the photo I discovered that the soldiers were wearing a reflective band around their right boot, as is regulation when moving in traffic in the dark.

So maybe my first point of "stfu it's for your own sake and people got killed making these rules" don't stand, at least not with my example. But then again, it doesn't sound like we're disagreeing on this one.

Driver said he wanted to make sure to get weather announcements as it was -12°C, so he was adjusting the radio and didn't see them.

Apparently the driver was charged with negligent homicide, but I can't find any verdict.

Sorry, I must have missed that in my pursuit of sharing a memory. I have now written an update.

At about 0620 on February 17th 1997, a platoon of 38 royal guard recruits, and additional NCO and a lieutenant, were marching along a public road when the driver of a Ford Transit van plowed through the platoon from behind. 20 were injured, of these two died.

I know it must have looked so stupid, and felt incredibly embarrassing. But somebody made a decision to not have you guys killed.

Update: I missed providing a context for the photo. It's from the site of the accident. Taken on the day at an unknown time. The soldiers in the background are the ones who where lucky and didn't get hit.

Looking closer at the photo now, I feel like editorializing a bit. As this happened a couple of years before I was up for the draft, the line up of the gear was all I could remember, when I went looking for the photo. It was seared into my memory, although it looked different in my head. I didn't remember neither weaponry nor soldiers.

At the time of the accident, it will have been pitch black. Sunrise was at 0728 that day, looking at the light I'd say the photo was taken some time after 0800 at the earliest. That approx 20 soldiers were left to wander about a field, in a state of emotional distress, for +2 hours, instead of getting picked up, or at the very least rounded up, says all you need to know about how well prepared the Danish defense forces were back then. I feel bad for those guys. Half their platoon has been picked up by ambulances, and now they're on their own.

I'm stuck using fucking facebook, messenger and whatsapp. Facebook and messenger are where all the non-techie people in my kids' sports communicate, and I've got some dear people far away that uses whatsapp.

I had deleted my account back before it was called meta, but had to get a new one. Fuck me if I'm going to install their app though.

If we could wean people off of meta it'd be great.
