See my other comment. You're just pushing hate against people instead of meaningful regulations.

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml -5 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

But you're not. You don't do that. You're denouncing people, turning them into villains. You're not suggesting any sensible regulation (e.g. https://regulations.ai/). You're not attacking the root of the problem, neoliberal capitalism.

All you're doing is spraying shit into the ether.

I'm tired of this constant fuckai spam. AI slop this, AI slop that. AI slop impacts me almost not at all, while the constant hate mongering by fuckai is getting on my nerve.

Not a SINGLE "AI artist" ever "looked at you like this". You are building a strawman as the target of your hate because you can't do anything else with it. Are we a society defined by hate now?

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah I totally agree with you. From what I've seen only China has enacted sensible and quick regulations. Found this website regulations.ai.

I believe / hope that AI pushes the abilities humans need upwards. Like there is AI that can do character animation, but you still need a motion choreographer who interprets the script and tweaks the AI and has the words and thinking and creativity for character animation. Same for programming, you still need to design the shape of the program and unit tests and understand the architecture.

But with every progress a larger percentage of people will be replaced and their labor not valuable any more. It's either socialism and planned economy either with or without free market or bust.

One hope I have is that we'll also be able to use AI and advanced robotics for "subsistence living". There are apparently humanoid robots for $6000 in China now. And once smartphones and AI are good enough you could use one as a "control module". We might also build robots much easier out of wood and servos in the future, because other machine learning models allow control of very "imprecise" robots. And then if we're not prevented by IP law "we" as individual or groups of people could also directly benefit from the free labor. And the more advanced these AI models become, the more we could liberating ourselves from wage slavery.

Thanks, fair enough. If you want to hear my (shitty) take:

With the Chinese releasing "frontier models" like the 2.8 trillion parameter Kimi K3 I do not believe a true monopoly is possible, unless IP law is extended to prevent open weight models to protect them from competition and make running local LLMs without paying a license fee illegal. Which does seem likely in the western world, but not in the rest.

I am not sure how much exactly the proclaimed intent or ideology matters vs gaining power or money. Basically what they write on their banners. But I do think it can matter quite a bit e.g. "socialism with Chinese characteristics" has done much good for the people, or even Iran's theocracy which I don't like but which has principles, even though they are obviously far from perfect. Generally I prefer people who believe in something, really anything, to neoliberals who believe in nothing.

So I don't expect Anthropic to be paragons of humanism and communism either. And this connection is relatively mild. Hustlers gonna hustle. Very few capitalists would flinch at taking investments from questionable sources. So I would still support Anthropic with their "constitution" as the potentially better alternative to OpenAI or SpaceX. At least until they go public and forget to "not be evil".

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Yeah I read the article. So the point is that Anthropic AI's CEO's wife once sought financing from Epstein after he got the most miniscule slap on the wrist, and therefor... ? What does that tell us? They have no morals when it comes to money? How is this a surprise or news? There must be thousands of such contacts with people seeking investment or a connection or this or that. Why single this person out?

I don't really see what's the news here. So she approached Epstein for investment. How many else did that? She's married to X which is relevant because she... ? Am I missing it?

Is this some sort of flak between billionaire class? WSJ is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

I was sarcastic. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair today.

But while fuckai is busy beating the drum for intellectual property expansion, a non-capitalist state like China has regulated their AI preventing workers being replaced by AI or regulating emotionally addictive companion bots. Meanwhile I have not heard a single actionable demand for regulation from fuckai.

So there is a problem with capitalists abusing AI. There is no problem fundamentally with LLMs themselves, they are just tools. They could be amazing to help with economic planning because it could allow to parse democratic input from millions of people.

IP laws are very much a tool of imperialist oppression. Patents are outright genocide, preventing rapid adoption of new technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And ultimately the IP argument will lead to open weight models becoming "illegal", monopolizing the "means of generation" and advanced robotics in the hands of the plutocrats. That is going to be "it" for the future of humanity then. They are going to pay a pittance in "general license costs", replace more and more labor, while you can try to pirate an open source model to use this emergent technological power yourself.

Yeah, memorization is a bug they have to fix. Like I said, then all problems will be solved.

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 days ago (4 children)

What happened with Arch?

Wait, let me update real quick and reboot, brb

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml -1 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Now you've entered the land of fairy tales and make believe. A person who memorizes a book and then burns it and then recites to others would in fact not be put in front of a firing squad like you want to.

Not saying corporations are people (they are though) but they are literally not doing anything else than that. Now they only have to teach the AI to learn double think, to learn from the book, but then forget the book, only to be able to remember what that book was about, while being unable to faithfully repeat it.

That's literally going to solve any and all problems with AI. It's not like we should demand meaningful regulations about the actual problems like authoritarian China does. You know, because, think of the book publishers. They are people too!

The irony of the Trump administration literally destroying all records of business ownership is insane. That is like the greatest destruction of evidence in the history of a country.
