i was a different person on the DDR machine. i was great. now i have morton’s neroma, and fear having to put titanium arches in the ball’s of my feet, or getting nerve scrapings to be able to walk without feeling like that exposed nerve meme. i miss the dancing though

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

I feel seen...

[–] Doublenut@lemmy.zip 7 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

I'd like to guess solely on the specific images in the meme that you are exactly 31.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

A 31 didn't become a teenager until the late 00s

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Suburbs 31. Back then it took a few years for the culture to permeate into the breeding grid

[–] buzz86us@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Don't be dissing on Foamie

[–] Mostly_Gristle@lemmy.world 46 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I feel like there should be a picture of Gir in between the hair dye and the Pick of Destiny.

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 3 points 16 hours ago

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is there for Johnen Asked L Vasquez rep though

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's definitely missing Gir and the Blink-182 Self Titled album logo.

Actually if we wanted to be pedantic, (and why else are we here?) we could argue this is too wide a spread and encompasses multiple mini-generations. For example I loved MSI and Foamy and Tenacious D, but I was already in high school when Pick of Destiny came out and likewise I hated Happy Tree Friends as I felt it was both awful and mostly for younger kids (who shouldn't have been watching it, but it beats rotten.com and some of the other early Internet stuff they missed the boat on, but I digress...) This covers a wide spread of the early and mid to late 2000s and that doesn't seem like much from an outside perspective but this was back when years felt a proper length.

[–] HopeForTheFuture@piefed.zip 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

MSI... there's a name I've not heard in forever (beyond my laptop, that is). That was a fun group for a time. And Neurotically Yours I had all of.

IF YOU’RE SO SMART, EXPLAIN THIS CLARISSA! POW!

I do love me some MSI.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm something of a man of culture myself.

I'm having a hard time finding a good picture, but I had a whole wall of Frankenstein Girls lyrics written in silver sharpie.

[–] Omega_Jimes@lemmy.ca 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I think that bottom picture gets the message across juuuust fine.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

What, you don't like my collection of glass bottles including a Perrier?

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Clearly, DICKS ARE FOR YOUR FRIENDS, WISHING TO COME TO YOUR HOUSE!

Me too. This was their best album, IMO. I genuinely love half the tracks, and listen to many of them regularly.

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 22 hours ago

It was eligibly the most expensive and ridiculously produced album of all time. It’s their best album because nobody ever trusted them with their wallet like that again, lol.

Still call it starschmucks to this day.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 7 points 20 hours ago

Hmmm, I feel like an Mp3 player should be part of this collage.

[–] nandeEbisu@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I'll give you Bawls and Pixie Sticks as for wannabe edgy kids, but DDR was mostly otaku and otaku adjacent.

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago

I got really good at the DDR knockoff where you waved your hands over sensors so I could play it on my break at the mall and not get sweaty.

I thought I looked so cool tryharding that techno hand-jive.

Ooh! Ooh! Are we doing JTHM again? That means I get to post this picture one more time:

yessss, JTHM! That shit was so cool to me

Also I introduced my friend group to Donnie Darko and American History X and it gave me remarkable street cred lol All of a sudden I was "the movie guy"

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Where are those belts with the fake spikes on them?

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (5 children)

Wish I could find some Bawls today.

[–] PabloSexcrowbar@piefed.social 4 points 20 hours ago

It's time for you to wake up, and take me, to the baggle shop, for a baggle with cream cheese, that creamy creamy cheese, OR FACE MY SQUIRRELY RATH!

I do have squirrely wrath you know. It's one of those, hidden nature things.

JTHM was great; it actually mercilessly mocked the darklings who were its nominal following, unlike a lot of more pandering goth comics that mixed the gentlest digs at pretentiousness/formulaic music/ridiculous dance moves/wretched poetry with stock tropes (vampires, New Orleans, beauty-in-darkness). Vasquez was the kind of cranky bastard who could really write.

Donnie Darko was, IMHO, hugely overrated. It felt like a student filmmaker trying to do a David Lynch impression, overseasoning it with Hot Topic angst, missing, and somehow getting lucky. Given how his subsequent film, Southland Tales, fell flat, that’s probably not inaccurate.

[–] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 1 points 13 hours ago

I still have JTHM comics somewhere

[–] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That Happy Tree Friends episode where the elk had to amputate it's leg with a spoon, only to realize he did the wrong one when he was finished, still follows me :D

[–] Rezurektme@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The one that still follows me is the girl animal (don't remember which) who has germ-phobia and scratches off her skin with steel wool. :3

[–] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 1 points 9 hours ago

Also reminded me of the "Dumb ways to die" campaign: https://youtu.be/dWSoqIKAE4o

[–] db2@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (4 children)

Bawls isn't using real sugar anymore fyi

Fucking loved foamy the squirrel

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Just a little after my teen years, but HTF and Bawls (grabbed while in the checkout line at Fry's Electronics) bring up some memories. And... is that Pixie Stix? If so, the 60s through the 90s would like a word.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Oh sure, you all had Happy Tree Friends, but some of us were on next-level shit with R-slur Animal Babies

[–] lunchbox2287@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I haven't been in a while, but a couple years ago, you could still find Bawls at Microcenter of all places.
