Not a like in depth metal lover, but I will say the music at live metal concerts/festivals is some of the most legit fucking rock I have ever beheld. The energy is amazing. I screamed myself hoarse and pretty sure I got a concussion in a like circle mosh pit thing. Also kind strangers provided me with sunscreen and cannabis

~~Make it happen then yourself.~~

They're just that underground, posers like you cannot fathom it!

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Aha, a fellow FÄTHØM fan.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

FÄTHØM, the German Satanic Black Metal band, that had members all over the political spectrum, released 4 demos and 1 full album. They all killed each other once they all got too drunk and started to talk about politics instead of satanism, though police reports point to that Holocaust-denying Neonazi bassist, Hans Mann started the first blow, but last-man standing ancap guitarist Kristoffer Johannson also got fatally wounded by the end, and spent more time trying to write "fucking communist scum" with his own blood rather than to get medical attention.

Too bad that the now christian tradwife ex-wife of Mann tries everything in her power to stop these albums from further circulation, because "metal bad".

[–] crashex@crazypeople.online 3 points 1 day ago

Interesting to mention also that their triangle player Egon Wurst was decapitated by a halberd during this fight while stabbing Mann with his triangle. They are so controversial that a German court ruled that their merch may not be worn in pre-schools and nursing homes!

[–] cholesterol@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Interesting. Do true metal fan fans gatekeep fanbases?

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 4 points 1 day ago

True metal fans just keep spinning

Gotta say, IMO this has nothing to do with being a [insert genre] fan at all. It's just about not being a pompous, pretentious asshole. 😄 Let people like what they like! But I still have my opinions about what level of musicality and interesting aspects there need to be in the music I listen too. Again, the music ->I<- listen to. Other people can definitely listen to bland mainstream garbage if they want to. 😅 Not all mainstream music is garbage of course, some of it is popular because it's actually good, so not all awesome music is obscure/indie/whatever. 👍

My mom partied with Megadeth. I should get a DNA test..

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I mean Megadeth was founded because Dave Mustaine went too hard for Metallica. I imagine your mom has seen some shit. But congrats on Dave being your dad though?

Nah Deafheaven would never wear corpse paint

90s demo tapes hit different though. The crustiness really enhances the overall atmosphere of certain genres.

Ysigim - Ain Soph Or (1994) is a personal favorite. They did a digital rerelease recently and it's too clean, I don't like it.

[–] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Guys, I think I found the guy in the meme

[–] Valsa@mander.xyz 13 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Yes and I will judge anyone who doesn't recommend me their favorite demo tape

Here are a couple of my favs:

  • Cromlech - ...and darkness fell (Meloblack along the lines of Dawn/Sacramentum)
  • Cartilage/Altar - Ex Oblivione (All time DM split from two bands who never really did anything after)
  • Abhorrence - S/T (early Finn-death classic)
  • Dusk - Majestic Thou in Ruin (absolutely goated Death/Doom EP)

Some blackened doom vibes here. Like some old school Bell Witch.

As long as its not fash trash or country achy breaky farts i'll listen.

[–] atx_aquarian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A friend once pointed out you can replace the words of any country song with "dingle dangle doo" and it works just as well as the original. It's how I cope when Achy Breaky is inflicted.

Here are my new words.

Ding dangle doo
A-dingle dangle doo
A-inky dinky dingle dangle doo

An' if ya dangle doo
My dingle dangle doo
A ding dang dingle dangle doo

WOOOOOOooooOOOO

[–] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I gave it a go with “Chattahoochee” by Alan Jackson:

Well, ding dang doodle dingle dangle doodle
Ding dang dingle dangle doodle dangle
Ding dang doodle dingle Georgia asphalt
Dingle dangle doo but we dangle dingle doo

And “Thunder Rolls” by Garth Brooks:

The dangle rolls
and the dingle strikes
another dingle dangle doo
on a dingle doodle diiiiing
as the dingle doodle doOooo
dangle dingle ding
dingle dangle heart
the dangle rolls

I just went and looked up Ulgethroom, so disappointed.

[–] Toasticus@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Hell, they'll give you this look even when you say you like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and of all bands - Motorhead.

People have particular subgenres of taste, but who the hell decided at one point that we should evaluate what is metal and what isn't?

I have given bands like Cannibal Corpse, Death and sprinkles of other Death/Black metal bands honest tries. To me it's all just noise and the vocalist guarantees me that I will not like them because it's just belching and barking lyrics.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

who the hell decided what is metal and what isn't?

I recommend freeing oneself from the chains of genre altogether.

Humans have a tendency to turn descriptive language into prescriptive language. So what started as artists experimenting ends up getting categorized into market demographics that are easier to sell to. Separate communities who, in order to exist at all, need to create rules about who does, and thus who does not, belong. And so what starts as free artistic expression reflects off of the audience and becomes economic and social pressure to conform to these rules. We end up with bands making "metal" music for the sake of being metal, at the cost of true artistic expression.

Is an artist metal? Is an album metal? Is a song metal? Is a particular instrument in a song metal? Is a particular bar played by a particular instrument metal? Is it even about the music, or is it about other things? The clothes, the color schemes, the fonts, the lyrical subject matter, the community? Does any of it actually matter?

[–] zo0@programming.dev 9 points 2 days ago

It's only metal if I like it, anything heavier is just noise, anything softer is poser

[–] crashex@crazypeople.online 4 points 1 day ago

Thank you, this needed saying! It would be nice if we could return to just playing music without worrying at all what genre it is.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What ... what ... what possible problem can anybody have with Motorhead?!

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Maybe jealousy? They cracked the mold when they popped Lemmy🍰 out. Now the metals are left with only like 2-3 to choose from.

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Why listen to Ghost when Trans-Siberian Orchestra already exists?
