Blech! Ew! Geez. I'll take The Homer

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 42 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

For both of them the design features were dictated by an idiot who had free reign over the project and didn't listen to any of the expert's input.

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I know a guy who is a huge Elon supporter and loved his Cybertruck. He got rid of it because of all the heckling he got over it, and didn’t want his young kids to deal with it. Now he drives a Rivian.

They've still failed to satisfy my needs. I still can't find a horn when I'm angry!

Has the world forgotten the Cadillac Cimmaron?

[–] newton@feddit.online 7 points 2 weeks ago

Never heard of it

[–] comador@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think the Pontiac Aztec was worse tbh.

The Cimarron was basically a Chevy Cavalier and it worked. I know, it was literally my first car.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The Aztec was decent to drive, it was just kind of ugly and not terribly reliable.

The Cimarron was, as you say, a rebadged Cavalier. The Cav was the bottom of the barrel that GM had to offer at the time (1982), and they thought it would be a good idea to slap their flagship brand on it.

It was a legendary failure, on par with the Edsel.

[–] comador@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Fair. I had a used '83 Cimarron 1.8T in 1994. It was an absolute slug, basically chewed through alternators and water pumps on a quarterly basis, but honestly wasn't horrible for a first car.

Aztec was fugly as hell though.

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The Aztek is indeed fugly. But there's still some charm to it, at least with some nostalgia goggles.

At least looks better than the Cybertuck IMO. I have never EVER seen a vehicle as ugly as the CT; other than maybe the Nissan Cube.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 4 points 2 weeks ago

There's a Nissan Cube in my driveway right now waiting for me to put an AC compressor in it.

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

Meh, it just looks like your average boxy 80's car.

[–] fleem@piefed.zeromedia.vip 2 points 2 weeks ago

i will learn about it now

[–] Janx@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Does the meme creator think an animated fictional show is "automotive history"?

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

i don't think it's meant as counter example and more as a comparable story in the meaning of "the symptoms predicted it years ago".

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I remember watching the release Live with a few buddies, and the "gunshot proof windows" shattered with the gentle toss of a ball bearing.

I knew just watching the release it would flop, they marketed solely to clueless hipster assholes instead of actual truck-buying rednecks.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I beg to differ, Homer's car has been beaten by the Cybertruck.

[–] BucketBong@p.hobo.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Homers car is still a better car than that weird fucking thing.

[–] jumping_redditor@sh.itjust.works -5 points 2 weeks ago

both were unique cars that did things no sensible automaker has the guts to.
