At a minimum we need some indication for when they diverge from history. To many people rely on movies for their historical knowledge.
Yes! Entirely too many movies dwell in historic facts or likeliness (e.g. two characters small talking about the big ball game- not a documented event but entirely plausible) to ground themselves then go into fantasy/ax to grind land without warning. A cyborg raptor with lasers on it's head should pop up in the corner to let the audience know we're in fantasy land.
