I feel like this would be easier to draw conclusions from if I had absolute counts rather than percentages. Was the change in the Linux share due to other platforms (Windows) increasing their numbers, or did the total number of Linux users dip and then return? The latter seems difficult to explain.
The competition is Chinese and doesn't give a fuck about US regulations.
That's not greedy — it's smart.
The people I know who bought one don't give a shit about ethics. They stayed away from them for as long as they were socially unacceptable, but as soon as the storm blew over they saw their chance to buy one.
Just... a data point. My experience is that at least 20% of a population doesn't care about stuff like this. They care about their own social status, but not ethics.

If you're going to measure demand in a way that makes sense for a demand vs supply formula, you must do it in a way that's independent of the price.
