CME Group, the world's leading derivatives marketplace, and Silicon Data, the industry leader in GPU market intelligence and benchmarking backed by global trading firm DRW, today announced plans to launch two Compute futures contracts on October 5, 2026, pending regulatory review.

These innovative new trading tools will bring much-needed hedging and investment vehicles to businesses looking to manage the cost of compute, the processing power and hardware infrastructure that machines need to train and run AI models. Both Silicon Data H100 Rental Index Futures and Silicon Data B200 Rental Index Futures will track indexes measuring hourly rental GPU costs published by Silicon Data. Each contract will represent a month's worth of rent for the Nvidia H100, the chip central to today's AI ecosystem, and the next-generation Nvidia Blackwell B200, respectively.

"Compute has become the currency of the AI age, and this innovative market will bring transparency to the current and future costs that AI builders and hyperscalers need to hedge as they grow," said Pete Keavey, Global Head of Energy and Environmental Products at CME Group. "Just as oil fueled the 20th century economy and evolved from spot trading into a global derivatives market, our futures contracts will now turn compute into a standardized, tradable commodity that will provide global businesses with a reliable, regulated venue to manage price risk ."

"For years, two companies buying the exact same GPU capacity could pay wildly different prices with no way to know who got the better deal. They will now have a benchmark to check that against," said Carmen Li, Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Data. "Compute futures give the market something it's never had: a public, tradable reference price for the resource every AI system runs on. Silicon Data's benchmarks make that price real; CME makes it tradable. Together, that turns compute from something enterprises negotiate blindly into a market they can actually plan around."

Explosive demand has driven sharp swings in compute prices, with volatility exposing a gap in the risk-management toolkit for companies building the AI infrastructure. CME Group and Silicon Data's Compute futures close that gap, bringing transparency to the market and allowing companies, including AI developers and hyperscalers, to lock in their costs. They will also provide a window into future AI spending.

We are not talking about 1 or 2 companies this is the KOSPI similar to S&P in US. This worse than 2008 for Korea. Additionally many Koreans use leverage which means they were margin called and some are even in debt now.

The collapse surpasses the October 1997 IMF crisis, when the index lost 27%, and the October 2008 global financial crisis at 23%.

It depends on why the books is rare, some books are rare because they are not popular while other because they were banned. For example I know a novel were the English translation is easily available, but the original language is rare because it was banned in the original language in multiple countries. Don't forget collecter artbooks that were never digitised.

If we have access to the digital copies then Yes, but we don't have access to them, they are turned into training data for AI.

 

Artificial intelligence labs are in a new arms race to buy up millions of rare books, slicing them open, scanning the pages and pulping the remains — sparking concerns that the last remaining copies of out-of-print texts are being destroyed on an industrial scale.

ISBNdb notes that “print books from the pre-LLM era are structurally guaranteed to be free of this contamination”.

“Millions of the most valuable books have never been digitised. They exist only in physical form, scattered across library shelves, used bookstores, and out-of-print catalogues. We get them to you at scale.”

Manga artist Inio Asano, the creator of Goodnight Punpun and Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, recently appeared as a guest on WEEKLY OCHIAI, a talk show hosted by Japanese media artist Yoichi Ochiai. In the interview, published partly on YouTube (the full version can be watched via the News Picks platform), Asano talked about the “Unreal Engine” technique for creating his manga, and touched on why he put Mujina Into the Deep on hiatus, as well as the use of generative AI in the manga scene.

To begin with, Asano says that Mujina Into the Deep ended up turning into an action manga because he wanted to create a story where he could freely experiment with 3D-modeled environments. “Initially, it was supposed to be a simple, grounded story about this hopeless middle-aged man in a shopping street. But when I created the town in 3D, I was like, I could make a manga that’s much better suited for this – and it naturally became an action manga.”

Those who follow Asano on X might be familiar with the fact that over 90% of the backgrounds in Mujina Into the Deep were made by the mangaka himself using Unreal Engine and Blender. While he uses paid assets when he can, he also models his own when needed.

Asked about whether utilizing AI could help with streamlining the process of modeling and placing all of the individual assets on such a vast open world, Asano explains that “it’s definitely possible, but there is a very difficult problem of what extent you can use AI to.”

“Right now, publishers are not in a position where they can overtly say that they allow AI use,” Asano comments. “It’s a strange situation; You’re not allowed to use it precisely because you’re a professional.” He explains that, while there are several reasons why Mujina Into the Deep was put on a hiatus until 2027, the manga scene’s current attitude towards AI is one of them.

“In the current state of things, mangaka are not allowed to use AI. But using AI actually drives up the quality by a mile. So doesn’t that mean it would be best to not draw the manga now? Maybe they suddenly lift the ban [on AI] next year, so it might be better to start drawing after that happens. I’m currently on standby in that sense,” Asano says. Though he didn’t elaborate if or to what extent he hypothetically plans to use AI, he said that using it could significantly speed up the modeling process.

As a side note, Asano says that, while he doesn’t find any particular inspiration for his stories in other forms of media, he is passionate about video games. Apparently, all of his work after Dededede, including Mujina Into the Deep, is heavily inspired by the GTA franchise. As he explains, he creates all of his stories by creating an “open world” for them first.

Agreed, using the same device for illegal and personal activity is dumb.

This is only for the clearnet, the darknets don't have this. Maybe most people will go to darknets. Of course due to being unregulated it has all kinds of disturbing stuff.

I believe at first AI companies bought the future supply for HBM, which caused ram scarcity since the same companies that make DDR5 are focusing on HBM. Currently a lot of the DDR5 future and current supply is going to Data centers, not leaving much for normal consumers.

This is why there should be laws regarding RAM prices. A couple of companies buying the entire supply shouldn't be allowed.
