Google is a publicly traded company and I'm sure it doesn't need to be said here but the incentives do not allow them to be any thing but a for profit operation.

They are not your friend. They are not moral or immoral. They might do things that you agree with but that is only tangential. They don't support you or your political leanings. They don't have political leanings even though they might pretend to. If they do support your cause it's only to garner goodwill in the hopes of increasing earnings. They would change 'their' mind tomorrow if that made the stock go up a single cent.

Like marathons there is an entire population of people who 'cheat' in something that has no real consequence except to talk themselves up.

They record video what happens or who uses it after the fact is something else entirely.

Cheap, easy to clean, only gets opened like once every ten years, cheap and takes paint well.

Also cheap

Posidrive bits being mixed in with Phillips also helps strip out a lot of Phillips fasteners

Your school didn't have computer labs? Ours had a bunch that were nearly always empty with all the software you would need for every course. I used them just because the screens were more comfortable than a laptop and it was often quiet in there.

Lol, they have made a deal with the Internets favorite protection racket.

Let me tell you as both a user and person who scrapes the net, cloud flare is not going to stop this.

These things are very clearly just used for data collection for AI training. Making the users offset the cost is just bonus.

All the toilets in your building / neighborhood were installed all the same time and your need for a toilet seat likely matches the average lifespan of that item. They see this, they see you bought a toilet seat.

They don't sell ads directly for you though. The do sell ads to people your age in your location that might need a toilet seat. They might also know that that item has a high return rate. On the chance you return it they want to sell the opportunity to advertise to you for more to potential customers (ad buyers)

It just goes on and on.

The reality is they don't need to listen.

They have so much data on users.

  • how old you are
  • where you are
  • what you last bought
  • when you just bought it
  • who you are near
  • what they bought
  • what the people around you are searching and what ads they are seeing
  • what is being bought and sold by everyone around you
  • when you sleep
  • what you eat
  • the things you are chatting about on MMS
  • where you go
  • when you're home and when and where you work

It just goes on and on and on.

People think they are unique but they are not as unique as they think.

The other thing people on Lemmy / Hackernews/ Reddit don't seem to get is that people are not using laptop or desktop computers anymore. More and more people only have a phone and maybe a tablet. People with phones and tablets do not know what a browser is. It's baked into the system. Everyone on Android is using Chrome and they very likely don't even know it.
