Nvidia doesn't really put a big logo on anything, but if you know the shape of the modules they're easy to spot.

Always have been. Orin nano/nx SoMs are in all sorts of weapons systems. NixOS had a whole community civil war because Anduril heavily adopted NixOS and integrated it with Jetpack, the BSP that these run. They're kind of a PITA to use (fuck you WayneWWW...IYKYK) but they're easily the highest performance SoM of that size and the power consumption is workable for these kinds of...short lived systems. I think they started out targeting automotive applications and never really took off in the commercial world despite being comparable to Apple silicon in performance because they have no power saving modes. They ended up being perfect for doing real time object detection from a MIPI camera though so now they're the gold standard for bleeding edge slaughterbots.

Before the Orin, a lot of more experimental systems were using the TX2i and Xavier modules, but they had much less computing power and the image recognition models weren't as capable anyway.

Yeah, but it doesn't really offer anything useful to fix this situation

My feeling is if we're smart we'd probably layer it with some sort of DNS style distributed reputation system... If we're not (which is what will inevitably happen) we'll continue to consolidate the entire internet into a few huge walled gardens where information is heavily controlled, but you trade every shred of your privacy, anonymity, and dignity for convenience.

I don't host things on the open internet anymore. I have a small set of services I host for a group of friends and family and I set them up with tailscale.

On the flip side, I've been constantly frustrated because every time I have an idea for some little quality of life tool that involves pulling data from a site I would normally have to browse to directly, I can't do it because everything is captcha'd to all hell.

I think http/https is dead at this point.

And this is all predicated on windows including this "feature". Like, yes, theoretically, malicious devices can manipulate parts of the broader system and fire off exploits. Such an exploit would be very big news though, it's not something vendors can get away with casually.

Android depends on who gave it to you. If you install Linux from a parking lot flash drive it doesn't mean the Linux project is compromised, it means you got pwned.

I'd make the same argument about installing pre-compromised pirated windows but...windows kinda just is malware now.

That's...not how device firmware works.

You're not going to get adware drivers on a Linux system unless you're using stuff that's supremely sketchy and also installing things you shouldn't be. What you're thinking of is 3rd party windows drivers.

Yeah, there's clearly demand, so the engineering challenge is making them difficult to detect. That's how the OEMs are going to view this
