We will never know because they didn't give any information. No info about the book(books?) that were tracked or even how they tracked them.

They destroy them to comply with fair use laws. A judge in San Francisco ruled this practice as fair use.

The reason they are doing it this way is because it is illegal to not destroy the books if they ingest them. Skirting copyright laws.

I feel the same way about the new cars which is why I'm still driving a 2012. I genuinely have no idea what I would get if I wanted something newer.
