That's the fundamental problem I have with this. I don't believe in trapping people through gotcha bear traps. If you're going to be scanning every message for violations of rules, you shouldn't be advertising that service as private. In fact, they shouldn't even have DMs in that case.

For every one actual school shooter you catch, you end up ruining the lives of a thousand innocent children. Imagine I rent you a hotel room. You expect it to be private. Except hidden in the fine print of the check-in paperwork it states that there are microphones in the hotel room and anything you say there can be reported to the authorities.

That is the comparable situation. Quit equating this to public speech.

These companies encourage us to treat these tools as private. They literally fucking them PRIVATE CHATS. Because that will encourage us to use their platforms more.

If this is going to be the standard, we should make it illegal for companies like this to offer private chats as a feature. If the speech is going to be policed this much, we should make it so everything has to be published, in public, for anyone to see, under your real name.

Seriously. I'm tired of the haughty Puritans pretending they don't know what morbid humor is. At my grandfather's funeral, my whole family was doing it. It's a way to grieve. For example, he was a farmer. He literally bought the farm. at several points in his life. One of the jokes I remember making was, "he bought the farm, and later he bought the farm!"

My younger brother lived a very troubled life. Struggled with a lot of mental health and related substance abuse issues. Served time in jail after committing armed robbery for drug money. Died in his late 20s from an OD. But he was still my brother, and I still loved him. At his funeral:

"HE'S ROBBING ANGELS NOW!"

Frankly, if someone can't appreciate morbid humor, I don't want to be friends with them.

Oh quit with the haughty hypocritical bullshit. There is no way you have gone your entire life without venting or joking about committing an act of violence against someone or some evil company. Maybe we shouldn't crucify people for ordinary human behavior. Morbid humor is just part of human communication. If you actually have never done so, I would think there's something deeply psychologically wrong with you. Like you're obsessed with appearances and carefully choose every single word to control your public image to the most minute degree.
