Just like the good ol' days in the Bronze Age.

Don't look at the Debian website.

I chided someone earlier today for what I thought was a neckbeard superiority complex. It was a cheap shot. It's a lot better than it used to be. The nerds tolerate you if you use Mint.

On the plus side, you don't have to m----r the goats to get your money back.

Isn't EA the company recently making headlines for being a power and money-hungry greed machine pushing the inshittification of the digital world and subscription-based life?

Gosh it sucks when someone with more leverage institutes unreasonable and unprecedented restrictions and demands, huh? The narcissism mind-virus is insane.

The female sims will have a fulfilling existence, just limited to the confines of their home and subject to their husband's authority. /s

Weird. I think they like them a lot more than they let on (sandy sexy secrets).

To be fair to your point, windows does seem to be biased toward HP products - I have a really nice Canon $100 laser printer that makes any HP look like dogvomit, and windows is awfully forgetful, acting like they haven't met on the rare occasions I have to use it.

That is literally impossible to say, as you said, "hostile vendors" and all. I've had a chance to think about it, and I'm not sure they're hostile, probably just lazy. At any rate, I sense some willful blindness on your part; exactly the kind of thing I was saying holds back progress. You type some terse retort and push your keyboard away, satisfied you've told some stupid normie off- I'm not the one on the wrong side of the philosophical fence here, and my argument is not unique or new.

Those are good points, and accurate. I think my luck may just suck. I would be so happy to leave Nepo-baby Gates and his spyware company in the 20th century where it belongs.

My self-hosted services run on a repurposed thinkstation with a headless Debian install.

I had a Mint VM I loaded up with stuff - bottles, etc. It was all going pretty well, the install was almost as big as winblows which I wasn't excited about, but I really like Mint. I had a Linux Lite VM i was using for a separate secure connection to my work vnc. I didn't want my personal computer being legally discoverable just because I used it to connect to the mothership. On both of those, I wasn't doing a lot of sharing, printing, or other intermediate or hardware tasks.

For what I was doing, it worked pretty mostly fine. There was always a level of tinkering that is beyond what a normie would be willing or able to do. I do get tired of having to manually enter the commands to make the distro display correctly on my ultrawide monitor, but it is understandable.

I don't hate Linux. I like it. It has gotten a lot better in the last 20 years; I've watched it happen. There are just some things that remain frustrating, especially since I'm too dumb to remember CLI along with all the other things I know.
