Oh not this again. I agree the it sets a stupid precedent but the act itself is irrelevant.
Far apart from the fact that it's only going to be over any given area of the earth for about a minute tops, but also pointless because it's only 18 m wide, so you won't be paying for sunlight, you'll be paying for a random spec in the sky to be switched on.
This is all a giant con where they're trying to get a bunch of investment money from idiots that don't know basic physics but do have a lot of money. I'd actually put a reasonable amount of money on this never actually launching.
Yeah but the 0 point doing this unless you want to run AI models for some reason. These GPUs can't do video game graphics so this isn't a solution to the GPU shortage.

The reason that IT often gets lumped with this stuff is because if you leave it to anybody else they do it wrong especially logistics.
Everyone except the IT department is now banned from ordering new IT equipment because they'll order a bunch of laptops and then act all surprised when this huge pallet of devices arrives as if they didn't just order one. So then it just sits in the entrance lobby the days on end until someone from IT comes and opens the pallet and takes the laptops upstairs. If they do that with new pens that's fine, no one's going to steal them.
It'll be worse than smart watches that tell you that you've been sat down for too long.

Oh that's useful. I've often wondered what my current emotion is, I'm so glad technology has been created to help me with this issue.
Now I'm going to know if I'm currently happy or not. Of course I haven't got the technology yet so I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'll let you know.

I wouldn't risk it. The AI market is full of SpaceX like companies, massively overvalued despite literally never making a profit and having no coherent business plan beyond crossing their fingers and hoping they create AGI.
It takes 5 or 6 years minimum to step up a fab, the AI market is so unstable it could be gone by next week. If you want to cash in on this particular gold rush you need to already own the pickaxes.
