Happens all the time with GitHub Actions when they update runner images. According to Microsoft, it's "fundamentally unfixable".

That's their modus operandi. Next they will claim that it's totally an agi and is too dangerous to release, before starting to sell it. Or is this anthropic's playbook?
Lots of things are not necessary and are bad for the climate. You likely enjoy many of them. You start by reducing your own consumption.

You think USA government agencies never thought of using public surveillance cameras to spy on people before now? That's like basic stuff for any domestic security agency, in any country. The only difference is that now the data is shared with regular police with all the incompetence and abuse it implies. You have always been spied on.
Any "license plate reader" has a camera and can be used for anything. This was true before flock.
Firefox tries but this is very hard to fight against. Most of the obvious holes were closed long ago. Now these fuckers use normal browser functionality that can't be disabled and record how it subtly differs (in various ways like execution time of functions) between different combinations of browsers, OSes, hardware, etc. This information alone is enough to create a more or less unique fingerprint.
The only reliable solution is to completely get rid of client-side code execution like JavaScript and WebAssembly and return to static web pages. Which of course won't happen.
