When it was created, this was true. However, now cars have systems that log just about everything you do and send it to the manufacturer, who then sells it on to insurance, ICE, anyone with money.

So it started off ok, but now I would imagine that if your car has a sensor, it is reporting data back to that central telemetry unit which is sending it up up and away.

Two hours ago, I was driving in my little town. Speed limit is about 35. At the edge of town is one of those giant freeway-style lighted signboards that flashes some info about upcoming construction starting soon. When you see them on the freeway, they don't look as big. When you're up close to one, you realize they're pretty freaking big.

Anyway, the signboard is now on it's back, all fucked up, twisted and broken. Looks like a dinosaur picked it up, bit it and threw it. A little farther up the road is a late model kia sedan with the front torn off and some fucking twat of a driver taking pictures of his car.

So I don't know what model he was in, but it was one of the larger sedans, so not an Elantra or something cheap. I know darn well that it at least had to have automatic emergency braking, maybe even some other driver aids. Somehow, this muppet was able to NOT see the giant lit up, bright orange signboard and his car did nothing to stop anything by the looks of it.

So it doesn't surprise me that people turn this shit off, not one tiny bit. It's always the people who need to have them on the most, as usual.

While you are right, there are almost no laws in the US that protect privacy. Short of being in your own home with the blinds down, there is next to nothing working in your favor. The assumption is that you're in "public" or clear view of the public, thusly, screw you.

There should be privacy laws. The world has changed so much, but most laws are stuck in the stone age and now sold to the highest bidder who actively monetizes the complete lack of privacy laws.

In the US, you can look up TONS of details about anyone's house. From the sale price, the tax history, tons of details about it and even photos of the inside. In what normal world does that make sense?! Your employer sells your salary data to ADP who then sells it to any number of others. What the actual fuck?! Nobody asked for this, it's opt-out only but the opt out expires. I did it a few years ago, and it's back on again.

If privacy were not important, then there should not be bathroom doors.

Let's not pretend that a lot of good cars met an early end in C4C. People were hauling in their broken garbage to cash in. Nobody was bringing in some pristine example of anything good. A whole lot of raggedy minivans, crappy econoboxes and rusty trucks got sand in their engines. If they were worth anything, the scrapyard could have plopped a new motor in them and resold them.

C4C cleaned out the bottom of the barrel shit. Unless you were dying for some fucked up shitheap of a car, nothing of value was lost. If someone was dumb enough to roll in with something useful, you know damn well that the dealer would have given them the same money for it and just resold it. Yeah, you weren't supposed to do that, and politicians aren't supposed to fuck children either.

I think there should be, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. So many people are willingly give up anything that resembled privacy for a little convenience and novelty.

If you're using any google or apple product, you're part of the problem. Smartwatch, yes that too. Social media, take everything.

Until people actually start paying attention and actively refusing to take the bait on these modern conveniences (it just works!!!) this will just get worse.
