Here’s the thing, AI isn’t going away. Even when the bubble bursts, which it will, it’s a useful tool that can do useful things. I also don’t think in its current form it’s as useful or “necessary“ as the major tech bros want us to believe. I’d much prefer smaller models running on my hardware than just being controlled by a handful of those tech bros. But NVidia buying one of the major players in the local AI scene worries the shit out of me.

But AI is just a tool. It’s not good or evil. I can use a hammer to build a house or bash someone’s skull in. It’s not the tools fault either way.

Yeah I think the growth is going to be in these little models that think big. Like the Qwen3.8-flash idea. Using little tricks to make a small model perform better than it should. Localized AI is going to scale much better than being dependent on giant resource hogging DCs. And god forbid someone figure out how to chain these things together in some sort of peer to peer network utilizing all that processor time that goes unused throughout the day, like some sort of AI@home setup. Pretty sure that’s how Skynet starts.

Yeah they are definitely pulling a VMWare. Only big customers matter.

I don’t think it’s a primary goal. But I can imagine several gaming companies thinking this is a great side effect. Make everything cloud subscription service.

This is totally going to happen. And there is nothing you can do as far as spying with memory but I guarantee they will come up with some bullshit excuse related to that. I mean the only thing I can think of is some sort of kill switch but that would just kill the machine. Do that enough and nobody buys your RAM so what would be the point. Maybe just plain market manipulation but that’s pretty much happening now.

Yeah. Shit like this sorta reminds me of the reports I’ve been hearing about warranty replacements on drives. They don’t send you a replacement because that drive is worth twice what it was so they refund your money you originally paid. It’s almost like it’s turning into eBay and the highest bid.

Most everything I do is local but I don’t trust AI anymore than I trust any other tool. If it gives code that works or instructions to do what I need great. Even when it’s wrong I’m learning something new.

I totally agree about the billionaires. I absolutely don’t trust these dickheads running the shit show… Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, Elon Musk, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison… Fuck everyone of these guys. Everyone of them is a rich asshole trying to scheme as much as they can out of the system. I think their end goal is to put people out of work so they can automate as much as possible so they don’t rely on anything else. If AGI or superintelligence arrives within the decade, whoever controls it controls the economy that follows. It will be such a game changer nobody is even close to prepared for it.
