As far as I know, Sony has the same history for games. Valve does not sell movies and TV.

Don't know why you're quoting Gabe in this instance, Valve is selling the same "licenses" Sony is, revokable at the whims of the publisher.

It was concluded in 2024. MS called it a success but also discontinued research and expansion for reasons that don't seem clear from what I can find.

It's nothing to do with that. The costs are going up because the fees are going up. It's the natural progression of any startup. Give everything away for free but at some point the bean counters come calling and the marketing department doesn't cut it anymore.
