The gold price was always artificially inflated. It's just currently higher than normal because a lot of people anticipate a catastrophic end to the AI bubble.

Well, Youtube is changing the UI to make it harder to parse the site for apps like alternative UIs and video downloaders. They update, of course, but every delay is a win for Alphabet.

My sister's husband was one of the most active people I knew: jogging, cycling, basketball, long nature walks... It didn't help him with his depression, though. Or at least not enough.

Ah, I remember when you paused and the whole video was buffering. You could have multiple tabs open and watch the video when it was done. No matter what kind of connection you had, you could simply wait for the video to finish downloading in the background and watch it without problems.

No ads, a 5-star rating system, 100% buffering, and mostly enthusiasts posting, no profit-driven incentives. We didn't know how good we had it.

I hate the way YouTube now gives millions of dollars to people exploiting children watching videos - be it slop factories or 'influencer' preying on their insecurities.

In a just society YouTube would have been destroyed as a pseudo-monopoly ages ago.

Then why haven't we heard about all the criminals (pedophiles, terrorists,...) being caught by Microsoft surveillance? Because they don't care about the crimes you do. Their tracking is for money making only.

If I were a criminal I would not bank on it - they might use it for blackmail, too - but for the most part they are not in danger.

That sounds serious, but I wonder what it is that OpenAI wants from Apple? Currently they are mostly on the software side and Apple's secrets more on the hardware side.

Is it for the rumored physical AI thing they wanted to build?

I would be less concerned (still not buying it, but...) if pedophiles we already know about were prosecuted. How about putting them in jail before looking for more ways to protect children? What about the rest of Epsteins pedo ring? Are we supposed to think that was just the work of two people?

I'm all for protecting children, but we could do so much more even without sacrificing privacy.

Have you heard about "Tokenmaxxing"?

Since many AI companies didn't have a reasonable limit on the number of tokens for the amount of money you paid, companies started telling their employees to use as many tokens as possible. LLMs improve with more tokens (although there are diminishing returns).

So users tried to exploit the 'lure offer', and AI companies had to change the billing. It's still below the real cost, but no longer this insanely expensive option.

Well, if we had risen up against the rich, instead of letting them rule the world at least the last image would have been avoided.

They tried to sell a nothing burger.

What did they offer? A boring VR world.

They should have tried to copy a known hit game to VR, like Minecraft, Sims, Second Life, or any of the popular shooter games... Of course, with enough changes not to get sued.

After a successful start and a loyal player base, the chatrooms and monetization might have worked.
