15x8TB drives gives you about 72TB in raidz2, for about £4k in disks, add a server for say £2k

So by not spending £6k they lost everything, they spent $19million on IT in 2025

Someone fucked up

I asked it to generate a SQL query with a bit of python, as the database schema is huge and unknown to me, obviously I checked it for glaring errors etc. I went back and clarified a couple of basic points. It then told me what I was doing was completely wrong, generated new code that worked is a different way, with a different edge case missed.

It's literally stack overflow but arguing with itself

That's twice as much as I was paying, I'm going to write a strongly worded email to that penguin guy

You have to always think, why would the company want to do this, then find the shittiest reason, and that's usually the reason.

When your KPI and bonus is based on how many people you can recruit what did they think was going to happen

You can't compare total force output to efficiency like that. You need power in and power out.

_However, the global economic crash caused a decrease in consumer buying confidence. In addition to this, Marine Diesel Oil (MDO) and the related engine technology required to use it became readily and cheaply available. Fuel prices at that point meant that any savings achieved by the rotor were too small for shipping companies to consider the investment due to the lengthy payback period. _

So yeah cheap fossil fuels strike again

So this year at home I've printed: packing slips and address labels, images for the kids are project, insurance documents to keep in the car (Europe trip), plane tickets as a backup. Some course notes summary things.

At work: fuck loads of stuff, basically same as home x10

We gave it a simple task of scan the internet for industry news, put results in a table formatted like x. It goes around 3-4 days before messing up. We have concluded that if it was an actual employee it would have either been sacked or put on performance review.
