They're usually officially labelled "personal days" down here.
Some employers try and demand a certificate if you're sick longer than X days. I just never give them one. I don't need to, its a pathetic power play. That's my leave, already accrued by hours worked and part of my compensation. Fuck with it and i'll see you in court.
