SSDs are horrifyingly priced now! I picked up a Samsung external 1TB for 90 last year, over 200 now. I wish I had bought more… it took me FOUR TRIES ordering drives to get a… mediocre deal last month. Still over 300 for a 4TB NVMe! Three cancelled orders before I went to a store in the meat world and they had some. Insanity.

Oh totally. But this thread and the comment you replied to are talking about using ONLY someone else’s computer as a storage location, not redundancy.

I would never tell anyone to store their most important files only in one place! On top of that, the one place being not your own computer?!

That’s wild! My Final Windows(TM) is Windows 10 LTSC IoT so I have not experienced that. I don’t really see Onedrive anywhere, thanks to OOSU. I just wish this configuration was more easily accessible to average users.

This is insane bullshit on Microsoft’s part for sure

…buuuuuuuut

Storing your most important, irreplaceable pictures on someone else’s computer ONLY, with no control over them? That’s an insane practice.

Of course they cost MORE than putting all their functions on a tiny touch screen that’s already gonna be on the device!

Beyond manufacturing the device to be able to use separate physical moving pieces, you’ve also got costs supporting pieces that break in warranty, units damaged in shipping due to moving parts being tossed around, etc.

Making a RAM drive to load a few minutes of rolling video game footage so it isn’t constantly writing to my SSD or HDD was one of the most “the future is now” things I’ve done lately… and it’s not a new concept, I just never considered it before.

Buttons and scroll wheels cost more than touchscreens at this point… 90s me wanted touchscreens on everything, and me since maybe 2015? has been firmly “bring back buttons”

…whenever they started replacing useful things that SHOILD be buttons always (car) with touch things. Absolutely not bueno.

My partner and I are in our 30s and this post describes how we feel during a break after a long adderall binge, or a couple days after we roll together. This is very much not a normal part of aging! We sleep 6-8 hours per night and unless we’re coming off’a a couple weeks of adderall or the like, that’s good for the day without being destroyed.

I’ll never forget the swimming scene—one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen in an anime.
