There's also a positive environmental impact but I don't think they care about it.

Yes, but they can get away with a tiny amount of it. Perhaps we are back at the start of personal computing and arcade machines era, where every byte counted.
And all this is just because .... AI demand.
While that's true, it's a low bar. Ideally artists get some meaningful payments. There is also an issue how they count streams, do they count them correctly etc. From what I remember, it's very shady.
I wouldn't hold my breath that anything changes, though

Yep, but they still have a long way to go when it comes to co2 emissions.
Old phones, if nothing else, lack software updates meaning also security ones. Also battery might need replacement.
